Thinning the Herd - When and what?

As many of use have copious piles of markers, wondering when you decide to thin the herd and sell off stuff?

Do you have a certain threshold for keepers and markers you’d sell off? Sentimentality play a role in the decision?

Is price a factor? If some markers don’t have any value do you just keep them anyways?

Or do you look at what markers you use the least and decide to sell those off?

Or do you just continue to horde?!

I recently sold off a decent amount of mostly 98s and 98 like markers. I feel nostalgic towards 98s but I don’t ever use them. Luckily I have found some newish players to sell them to with a hopper, tank and pack for cheap. It helps grow the sport and declutters.

For what i could sell some of my markers for, the sediment that goes with them is higher. Alot were custom builds and just cant part with them, and a vm68 is not worth selling when its your first gun.then you have the current gun classes that your using, so they’re not going anywhere.this is a terrible game we play, lol, wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Haven't seen a "philosophy of hording" thread in awhile. it goes through phases. I try to thin the heard as I go and re-asses what really makes me happy. I strive to keep a fleet of loaners functional - I have 2 boys who love to play and always want their friends to come, so stoking them or someone who parked near us out for their first time out with a decent mask and gun keeps my paintball Karma in balance. Tinkering fixing and mod'ing guns makes me very happy and Having a ready supply of projects and tools at all times is paramount! selling them off.....is generally dictated by how badly I want something else at the moment.

I always have something for each of my four "shooter" slots: Space Gun, mechanical, open class pump, stock class. I don't sell often anymore. My first Spyder falls into the sentimental and worthless categories. I've been collecting Nelsons lately (going on 20 of those now...) that I don't really intend to ever use. Some are very valuable, others are worthless. My LV1.6 gets used a lot, but I'd be perfectly happy trading/selling it for something similar. It really does depend!

I have loved paintball guns since I was 12 years old...

Love old guns, space guns, stuff in the middle...

              Love tinkering on them

              Love how they smell

Love all the nuances of the different triggers, pumps, cockers

oh man do I love the looks...

I am with the idea of playing with markers that I own only since I do not have a ton of space to be keeping things i do not use.

If I did have the space and extra cash I would buy everything I really like and would display them in a room just for things that I love...

I mean I just friggin love these guns... and all the ones I want I want to get shooting correctly for game play.

I am sure I would end up with a couple display pieces that would not fielded but for the most part I would want to get me some kills with every marker I owned.

Coming back after a 30 year hiatus I started buying everything that I loved and wanted as a kid...

Ending up with a pile of markers I will not be able to shoot without the help of Walz or Jeepers I ended up selling and trading about 10 markers away.

I scored a 180r and mech frame for hanging with the airball homies, kept my Emek and Eblade... everything else went...

Now I find myself slowly trading myself back into a couple extra markers and a couple projects...

Definately an ebb and flow and like someone else mentioned I would not trade it for anything... But I do love a good trade!!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

IV sold off markers and gear so many times in the past and always come back so I don't sell anything unless I just don't want it even if I never play again I enjoy building the markers I wanted when I was younger and I will hold into all of it until I die most likely, hell bury me with it cause no one in the family is gonna want it and the only one who half knows what I have or anything about PB is my bro and he don't care either lol

Don't sell anything you'll regret, trust me. First gun, favorite projects, etc. You know which guns are special to you. Sell the rest and give yourself from room for new special projects n

Yeah IV owned about all the old guns except an angel and a viking and there's a few I kick myself for selling, had a really nice phantom setup with all the extra bits and bobs and got rid of it and I still kick myself for it

Definitely not selling anything to get the vultures excited about. I have a good amount of markers that are keepers. But things like a pair of TIPXs and all the accessories and stuff, things like that. Take up room, hold no personal significance.

I have an O.C.D. issue where I can't stand having a previous version of a current/modern marker. Had a Shocker AMP, the ERA came out, made the switch. Currently have a LV2, as soon as a 2.1 or 3 comes out, I'm selling the LV2. I know that it makes no rational sense, but I can't govern it. Hence why increasingly I tend to stick to 'classic/timeless' markers.

I acquired a completely stock, OC, CCI Phantom but only as a collection piece. Yet every gun on my modest wall has to have had a baptism of fire and a few 'kills'. Then it will have 'earned' its place on the wall. Played once with it, scored a few hits and back to the wall it went to stay there for a long time.

I also wanted a Tippmann up on that wall. My first gun ever was a Tippmann Pro-Am back in 1993 (before that I played with loaned or rented equipment). So I have a fully stock, 2011 version A-5, the closest thing in the current Tippmann line-up to the Pro-Am's quality.
"Aren't you getting too old for this??"
              "Nope."

                I work in pairs.

I keep a pair of STBBs, a Sentinel that's a very close match to my third ever gun (in high school) and a Walzmas grey Spyder that's a few years older than my first ever gun, a Spyder Compact. These are reliable and a good balance for walk on with a friend.

I have a Torque because it's cool and a good as anything I've shot, but it's rarely used. I had a Cyborg to make it a pair of electros but... well, even the Torque didn't get used.

I have a pair of OC pumps, a Sterling and a Bushmaster.

                I have a pair of SC pumps, a Phantom and a 007.

and then I have a lot of justifications.

I have a T2/Sterling project that doesn't count, but when it does, it'll be an OC gun. Then the Bushmaster will become an SC gun, and the 007 will become a pistol, creating a new category. I have a Diadem project that's been a project for a decade but I guess a pneumech is its own category? And sentimental reasons are a good excuse to not sell certain guns, too. Oh, and "test beds".

But effectively, a gun, a backup, and a loaner for whatever play style is my goal. And the backup can certainly be "down a class" since I never actually compete for prizes.

In this stage of life, I can't fathom wall hangers.

I’m not big into wall hangers either. My most prized markers are the ones I’ve played with the most. But due to disuse, some markers end be becoming wall hangers as I never take them to the field. Those are likely the ones I should target. Free up some funds for upgrades to keeper markers.

I used to be a one marker guy, mostly because I started as a teenager. Now I have a pretty wide set of excuses categories. Obviously I have to have a stock class, open class and a pistol. Then there's the need for a single shot pistol. Naturally I gotta have a tiger shark or two or three lying around for janky projects, then there's the spump because I tried to sell a pellet rifle and someone offered me a Spyder and I couldn't say no. Plus a pile of brass to someday finish up. And hey since my wife likes to play she needed an emek, so I need to have a semi of my own.

Once I finish up the duckslide and brass projects I think I just need a lever action and maybe a magfed and possibly a shocker or an ion for nostalgia and perhaps a halfblock then I think id consider getting a sterling. There's probably a few more after that and then I'd look into selling one or two of the tigersharks
