Shocker CVO vs Nova N2

I am looking to "upgrade" from my soulless Emek. I love my gamma core markers, but they just aren't "Fun" to shoot.

I have narrowed it down to The Shocker mechanical, or The Nova N2.

Both are around the same price point, both feature metal frames, both have similar bolt removal.

The N2 features the expanded trigger guards.

The Shocker has 20+ years of company backing it.

Anyone had both side by side, or owned and shot both?
I would have already scooped the N2 on sale, but am slightly apprehensive due to the companies past reputation, have they done much to show new owners a different face in recent times?

I like my CVOs but haven’t shot an N2 so I can’t really help ya out too much. N3 is a machine gun tho.

I've owned both and current have a 2nd Gen N2.
There is no clear winner in my opinion. Here are my rambling thoughts that might help you make a decision.

The Nova is not nearly as user friendly. The bolt system uses 3 springs and certain components need to have thread locker applied (loc/vibra tite) to keep it functioning properly. The trade off here is the experience. It feel very mechanical to shoot. It also cycles incredibly quickly. It's a very long gun in the hands. The trigger feel is more of a mouse click as opposed to a pneumatic valve like most space mech. Lastly, the N2 uses old school Spider/Intimidator rubber nubbin style detents which are still plentiful. This is gun is more for tinkerers in my opinion.

The CVO is a highly refined mech ION. It feels super comfortable in the hands (IMO) and the trigger is sublime. I really like how you can adjust the triggers spring tension on the CVO. I found that this helped me limit my rate of fire for walk-on days when I shot a Revy or Gravity feed loader. Bolt maintenance is very simple on a CVO. Pull it apart, wipe off and re-grease. No thread locker is needed. One of my favorite features of the CVO is how the bolt position is completely in sync with trigger position. It's very much like shooting an Autococker. Although, it can be short stroked unlike an Emek but that is part of its character.

Personally i was not a fan of the cvo. I didn't like that they had the adjustable bolt speed thing. They had a bunch of issues out of the gate because they weren't set properly. They seemed to resolve that in later production though.

I haven't shot an n2, but i would have a hard time picking up something from nova having seen all the issues with the n2, n3, x1, n5, etc. They seem to resolve the issues on the fly instead of on the front end.

I’ve got the n2 and the Adrenaline shocker.
admittedly the n2 did break my balls out of the box, but Nova fixed it on the spot.
I used the electronic shocker- whatever letters that is… and one is def heavier and feels more solid…

still… there’s just something about the Nova… feels good the hand. feels mechanical and is fast as hell. Even the issue out of the box didn’t prevent game play, I just had a drop off every five or so shots, but it kept on keeping on and was still dope.

Riot I could be wrong, but my understanding is that there was the RSX and XLS that were electros. The Aderenaline Shocker came in with both the electro and mech frames so XLS and CVO.

I wanted to like the CVO. Had one shortly and it chopped so much. Even with a Rotor, which helped a lot, still chopped. It felt way too tiny in my hands too (same with 170R). Emeks always work without issue, can be fast if you need it to be, and feel the best ergonomically.

I haven't owned a N2 but I have had several N3's, a buddy has a N1 and I bought a N4. I want to love Nova, I really do. But the reliability issues are too much for me to invest in another one of their markers. Issues with all of the N3's, the N4 was kinda cheap feeling and had nothing appealing about it. My buddy's N1 had issues too.

I owned a CVO and while I liked my Shockers, I hated the CVO. It short stroked and chopped. You'd be better off keeping the Emek and get a body kit for it or something to customize it. They work and are really good. It's your money, but I would keep the Emek and just make it more your own. Contact Northern Custom Works and get a custom frame or a Skibba frame with LV2 or 170R grips.

I'd go for the CVO personally. Feels very mechanical like an autococker due to the bolt being linked to trigger. The trigger as mentioned is sublime and personally I've never had a chopping issue with one. Just have to shoot it like an autococker and not short stroke. A lot of times the short stroking is people running the trigger too light/short which is just trigger adjustment. Run the trigger a little heavier with a longer stroke and you'll be fine.

Even after going through a M170R with deadlywind hair valve I'd go back to the CVO. The gamma core just feels "dead" to me. So soft shooting the gun doesn't feel like much is going on. The trigger is harder to shoot fast as well due to how light it is.

No experience with Nova products so I can't speak to that. Sounds like their QC is hit or miss.

I have a n2 ( a first gen) and I’ve not had a problem with it love how it shoots, now I will say my n3 I’ve had nothing but problems with so nova is not with out problems but the customer service is really good Tj will give u his cell phone and if u have an problem he will walk u through it and get it fixed, I haven’t shot my n1 enough to see if it’s problematic but shoots great. I haven’t shot the cvo so I can’t speak on that, but I also have an emek and it’s always with me cuz I know it will work no matter what

I have an adrenaline shocker, and with the trigger set properly it rarely if ever chops. You can rip out crazy long and fast ropes if you middle finger twitch it. Never shot a nova but the QC issues scare me and the resale value looks abysmal.

Well, pulled the trigger on the N2.

I only ever recball and big game , so the double trigger aspect appealed the most to me.

Was worried about QC, but it seems that there is a night and day difference between the og and Rev2, and owners say that the customer support is next level, hopefully I wont need it.

There are a few components that are recommended to be threadlocked so i have some Pink on the way.

My first brand new marker since 2006, so definitely excited atleast for that aspect.

I put another bag of 500 thorough mine at the field today. It's been flawless since I worked the kinks out.
