    super thin washable foam/scotchbrite

so, i had an idea with a MOAB barrel from DW. Id like to add some sound deadening material between the front insert and the outer sleeve, i have about .150 inches of space.. which mean that something about 1.5mm or 1/16th of an inch thick would fit..

i need a foam that won't dissolve if exposed to paint, and be easy to remove clean and dry.

would love to find some nylon scotch brite type material, but i can't seem to sort any of that by thickness of the pad..

does anyone have any suggestions beyond microfiber towel?.. as I'd prefer something less absorbent than that..

so far i've found a dishcloth woven from recycled plastics..

i need something like a re-usable paper towel made from something durable

More than likely this will just end up becoming a paint magnet or making the gun louder.

Tried something similar on a barrel I made and it was quieter with out the filling

I have a gun that sounds like a cannon with it on there already.. I have an easy way to test it

It's an excal. So I suspect it's using more air volume than the barrel is capable of holding.. ergo KAPLOW.. moabs not like that on a cocker or my emek and a normal DW barrel sounds like nothing on the excal

Something like this might work. It’s like a thin version of the foam used for proflex ears.

Eva foam is definitely an option but I'm thinking that one won't have enough positive benefits..
I thought about dynamat in the name of straight up vibration dampening but it's not available without adhesive which does kinda make sense given what it is...
I want something very open cell. It's about trying to increase the surface area inside the barrel. There's only a little to work with to begin with. So I need something that won't dissolve between cleanings.. because it will also most likely become completely ineffective after a barrel break, but I also need something that can keep the paint stuck inside the tube and not let it drip back into the porting.. hence the thing about easy to rinse and dry quickly

I know there's a lot of foams out there in the wild world of industrial packing materials and specialty insulation. I figure there's got to be something out there that can do this..

Air filter media might work. Most of it is thivker than you need buy you might be able to seperate layers, failing that maybe some cotton quilting batting?

I bought a Whoosh (bigger version) which had clothes dryer sheets in it. I kept them in there and change them out periodically. Not sure how much it actually helps though.

Yeah I suspect putting anything in there would make the barrel louder as you are restricting the air coming out through the porting which will result in more air coming out through the end of the barrel

But. I made my own silencer for testing at home and just used an old t shirt in between the barrel and PVC that I used. It works really well. For your situation I'm not sure I'd worry about it absorbing paint. Using something like common cotton you could just cut multiple pieces and change them out as needed at the field

this material is approximately 3/8th thick and since the 90’s it’s scotch brite and it’s brings the bark of a barrel down to a whisper

Try open-cell polyurethane foam material, which is used for dust pre-filters and comes in various thicknesses, making it relatively inexpensive. It can be 'washed" multiple times before it degrades. I can not say it will help with your sound signature you'll have to do that experimentation.

I had decent luck those heavy duty blue shop paper towels in a thing I made for an old Maverick. Not reusable but cheap and they worked well enough.
