    'Cockers: Build or parts?

In the hopefully not too distant future, I hope to get back to making a few YouTube videos. I have a ton of projects and project markers I want to do, and doing them up as a video gives me an excuse. There's also the fact I have some two hundred of them laying about, and honestly, I need to lighten the load a bit.

Most of 'em aren't too much special, not much more than a rebuild of an old blowback, but I'll usually toss something on to make it custom- handmade grips, a custom volumizer, a custom-fitted trigger, whatever. Then, when it's done, sell it off to whatever poor unsuspecting schmuck might want it.

But I'm wondering on the 'Cockers: Should I even bother building and tuning a complete gun? It seems half the players buying 'Cockers (that aren't a rare special edition or something) buy it and swap half the parts to ones they think are cooler or "high performance".

I mean, there's nothing wrong with that, of course, but my point is, should I, for example, spend the time having everything annoed to match, only for a new owner to decide he doesn't like sliders and swaps on a swing? Would it be better to just build a body kit, and sell most of my extras separately?

    Doc.

I think if you are making videos, do it for what the video is. A complete rebuild video, a timing video, and/or trouble shooting video. I wouldn't bother with re-annoing anything if you plan on selling because as you said most people are re-adding their own parts to their liking. As Ecap also said, parts will garner more profit but also move faster. But I do think people enjoy seeing cockers being rebuilt and brought up to working condition, and if they comment on buying the whole marker then I say keep it together and move it otherwise parting may be more wise.

sling them together with no rhyme or reason, etch in a new serial number and call them docs cocks.

-Profit isn't necessarily the highest item on this particular list. The reason I ask is simply that I would prefer to make a complete gun, but started wondering if I should bother- or at least bother doing ALL the 'Cocker projects- as full markers, when a prospective buyer might be more interested in a swing rather than a slider, or thinks the body style is really cool, but would rather have it as a pump.

I think if you are making videos, do it for what the video is.
-The video can be whatever I want it to be. These won't be "how to rebuild and time a 'Cocker" or anything like that- there's already plenty of those, and done better than I probably can. These will mainly be just-for-fun videos, kind of like the old AvE stuff, early Diresta or This Old Tony. As such, I can have it just turning a Sniper pump, just milling a front block, or a full disassembly, milling, anno and rebuild.

-If I made my own line of barrel bags, I could use the line Doc's Cock-Socks Rock! If I had a tub of them on the table at an event, that could be a Flock of Doc's Rockin' Cock-Socks in a Box.

But for now, I'm content just sending random people unsolicited Doc pics.

Put a tamper proof mark on the regs to make sure it isn't a user error.

I know some guys that would love a basic cocker to start on. Wveryone that likes cockers likes to tinker, so we wnd up chasing performance at evey turn.

You said it yourself, "rare special editions". If you want to put together a full custom build, with non-standard milling and possibly one of a kind parts, then it IS a special edition. Give it a custom anno and all matching (or artistically contrasting) parts, throw an extra digit on the price somewhere and give it a name. There are plenty of collectors with more money than sense who would throw cash at the chance to own the Green Machine or the Pyrococker. And a full build video gives it documentation, a paper trail, provenance. That's more than most custom limited edition guns have.

Now a plain black 2k3 vertical feed that needs a helicoil fix and a conversion to a Eclipse style feedneck, well that could be an interesting video, but at that point it's just another body.

I just wanna see more full Docs builds. With cockers probably better off with body kits. But I think this is the right place to sell full builds. I for one would love to own a fast back sniper or build one myself
