PHMSA hydro tester search page 2026 ---

This portal allows you to search a zipcode radius (or tabular output, "data view") for PHMSA approved hydrostatic testers in your area.
    https://portal.phmsa.dot.gov/rinlocator/
    1. Run a geographic search
    2. Look for shops with these parameters -- there's a blue icon for them:
      1. Class=Hydrostatic
      2. Spec tested includes "Special permit"
    Easy as that!
Keep in mind these are the certified business entities --- it's possible they are doing business with a different name or location. Also very possible they want nothing to do with consumer paintball testing

My good-ol-boys $12 testing shop just got bought out so I'm working the phones trying to find someone that's under $30 in Chicagoland. There's heavy private equity consolidation in fire services, once again PE is ruining everything.....

Yes thanks to this resource, I found a local fire extinguisher shop that performs hydrostatic testing that’s only a short detour on my way home from work. Just picked a tank up yesterday actually.

$12! It's never been that cheap around here. For the longest time it was $25, but for about the past decade it's been $35.

If anyone chicago SW burbs is looking, DIVE RIGHT IN scuba is the running champ at $30/tank nowadays reg removed. Great local shop, recommend

Pye-Barker fire & safety monee is also an option, $35 IIRC

I called a bunch of other shops listed for SP tanks, every one of them a bust (by price, knowledge, or willing). Not a surprise as they're all fire service shops

That scuba place is about 10 minutes from the house, glad it's the cheapest around. I was going up there on my day off this week to drop off tanks before I even saw this.

I went to dive right in today to drop off 2 tanks (i brought a third but he said it was exempt because of the 2 inch rule.) and talked with the guy who does the hydrotesting while i was there. He said he does hydro testing every Wednesday. He told me my stuff would be done next week, so turnaround is pretty fast.

30 bucks each was the out the door price, taxes already included. Turnaround was 1 week, I brought tanks on Friday and they were ready the following Friday.
