Angel is coming back with...a mech Angel?

I saw Will Arroyo post this on Facebook...he also said he can't say much right now, but he will be providing more soon and that he has been working with them for some months now.

Someone made a comment saying "Wouldn't a mechanical Angel just be a Spyder?" LOL, true. But Will says they have revamped the core.

No, it would be a HEAVY Spyder. But at least being mechanical it won't need a car to charge it.

I didn’t realize WDP had any legs to stand on. Or is this a passion project with some others in the industry? I’m off FB, so I can’t see any of the comments or anything.

Yeah it's really shrouded in a lot of mystery right now. Almost seems like a joke honestly, but if Will Rocs says it's true...

-This. I know the old WDP guys didn't just vanish, and I honestly have no idea what happened to the IP, but I do know that they also had kind of a bad rep there towards the end.

Can't wait to see what they come up with. "OG" made me think the LED, but I can't think of a worse design to try and go mechanical.

Ideally, take something like the A1 design toward the end, keep the "three tube" format with the ram in one side and the LPR in the other, but with the trigger switch moved to the grip, that leaves a void at the back of the gun. Chop that off, and have an Ego/Etek/Intimidator style bolt. That gets rid of one of the biggest weak points in almost all the original Angel designs.

They have an insanely steep up hill battle contending with planet eclipses mechanical lineup right now.

I hope whatever they put out doesn't end up being a sort of bob long level gun. Good for the fans that want to love it but not really worth the trouble.

Mechanical pneumatic air switch activating a ram that slams into a poppit valve. No sear, like the old angels.

I really want it to be good. I want an angel.

-Thing is, bringing ANY marker to market right now, is a pretty serious uphill battle. Trying to jumpstart a new marker manufacturer in this economy? With what looks like continued Covid restrictions at least through the next year? This isn't even the time to be dropping rumors.

I mean, from a purely economic and health-of-a-fledgling-business standpoint. As far as the marker itself, I'd love to see what's on the bake.

If they offer a "Pre-buy" I'm out. This smells bad and it's only a one sentence rumor...

Stanchy has meched angels before so I assume its not that hard to do.

From what I saw he just made it reload balls with a pump arm, still had electronics (battery board and solenoid) to fire the hammer into the valve. But maybe he made other versions that I didn’t see.

If someone eventually buy it, dont send it to the Angel "expert" in the news lately or you might not see your gun for a while...

I like the sound of this. Aesthetically, the Angel (LED & LCD) has always been one of my favorites. Something about the body lines that they achieved just appeals to me. Really was a great canvas for unique millings and custom anodize jobs.

To DocsMachine 's point - this will be a tough time to launch a full blown market assault. PE and others have the market flooded with well regarded, and highly performing, affordable mechanical markers. I think their success will come down to just a few things: design, distribution, and marketing. I have to assume these will be limited run, premium marketed products at a fairly high price point (with respect to PE's price point). Unless they plan to go all in on production numbers, I would suspect we are talking something in the 1k+ USD a piece by the time its shipped to your door. I would anticipate that would be shipped directly from them - with no distribution chain. Will the design be better or more robust than what PE is offering? Probably not. Will it be functional and reliable? That has yet to be determined - but I hope so. Of course I am assuming a CnC'd aluminum body that been anodised. If they start 3D printing bodies in the 3-tube style and work to bring down the /unit cost... its hard to say.

I wish them the best and look forward to seeing what they come up with. Angel ( /WDP) is such a part of paintballs history that I really would like to see them have some kind of comeback - even if its a small scale thing. From almost launching the Brass Eagle Angel to then going on to produce one of the most iconic and recognizable markers in paintball history - it would be cool to see them reinvent themselves to a degree and get back in the game.

If a mech Angel comes out, I'm betting it will be in limited numbers like say, the newest Freeflow cockers.

If they dont have to invest too much on design and devlopment (using the original cad file and just improve here and there) they could probably make a small run that will sell well and be viable for them

But I wonder if they will go with cocker thread for the barrel or keep the angel thread? To help people use their favorite barrel on this new gun
