I realize that your typical MCB denizen probably isn't much interested in the NXL. I find myself watching more and more of it online for some reason, even though I play woodsball exclusively. But I was wondering if anyone had any information or insight into what the hell happened with that apparently bench-clearing brawl between a couple of D5 teams. I've seen a few bits and pieces pop up on Reddit, and a couple of links to videos on Facebook and Instagram (looks like the same video; one copy is simply longer). The fight is already well in progress when the video I saw starts, and it is hard to tell who is a combatant and who is trying to break it up, at least until a bunch of refs come charging onto the field (presumably pulled from nearby fields). Various accounts posted online claiming to have witnessed the fight vary somewhat in their details, as one might expect. It seems undisputed that the fight started amongst active players from opposing teams at the very end of a match in which one team tried to pull off a full court press in the last 20-30 seconds to try to tie it up. And the fight grew as the players and staff in the pits joined the melee on the field. Accounts are not consistent about what started it, if they claim to know at all. Someone ended up on the ground maskless and getting shot at, apparently. And I have read some claims that there was a later assault on a player from one of the involved teams either in the parking lot or on the way out there.
Anyone have a coherent idea of what the hell actually happened? Not a good look for the sport. At least it occurred away from the pro field where the livestream cameras were.
