I have that legacymods kit and I have used it. It's like shooting uncapped semi in an electro. I can't really tell the difference. It DOES leak air if you hold the trigger down, so as long as you don't do that, you're mostly OK. Efficiency is definitely worse, but only gets terrible if you have a habit of holding the trigger down. If that's the case, efficiency is garbage.

On the note of efficiency, and my comment reply above regarding a post I had seen about new valve/parts: I inquired more and Dye said "After a more thorough investigation - it was primarily maintenance items causing the issues with DSR+ efficiency. There is no need for any new parts for the DSR+ for good efficiency".
The few efficiency videos I have seen range from 8-10 pods on a 68 or 77ci, and on ramping mode or something fast...so if the thing is well maintained and you're using the mech frame, I don't imagine efficiency will be a problem.

DYEs engineers have acknowledged there have been a handful of markers that had completely dry Orings in the solenoid, and at shot counts where no maintenance should be requires yet. Fortunately(ish) they made it user serviceable and a nice coat of slick lube has done the trick on these guns. And dye slick lube smells so nice.
All that said. I like the marker enough I want another one I a different color, so one can be dedicated mech.
And I can't believe how cheap people are selling them for.

FullContactUSA yeah proper maintenance goes a long way, as it should! Dumb question since I am not super familiar and haven't looked into it in much depth, but will this use the existing solenoid? Or like Eclipse mech conversions, have a different valve for mechanical use?
When I was hunting for one, the prices were all over for used. One guy wanted 800 and another wanted 725 for the one I ended up getting, and then saw others posted for even less. But I wanted all black, including the ASA, which is a color swap offered by ANS (or other outlets like Mazen who swap parts) and was able to get just what I wanted. I don't plan on using it until the mech frame arrives though!

The existing solenoid is electronically actuated (piloted), obviously, so that will be removed and a mechanical switch put in its place for mechanical actuation. If one wants to run the electronic components in the single frame, those can be swapped over.

I've seen several complaints of the mech frame making the marker's efficiency even worse, and gritty trigger pulls. Not trying to bash it since I don't have any personal experience, but that doesn't sound great.
Also Dye now has a $90 "pro" kit for the DSR and + that claims to increase efficiency and consistency...and seems like it's more for the electronic version.

I haven't been to the field with it, so I can't comment on efficiency yet, but after setting it up with a bit of air I had left in a tank I can say that the trigger on mine felt smooth and snappy. I actually think I like it better than the electronic trigger once I got the magnetic breakaway cranked up as much as I could. With the short pull and light tension, it still feels like it could be an electro. Hoping to play this weekend, so I'll update if I do.
With a lot of the efficiency complaints that I've heard, it sounded like lubing the solenoid spool fixed the problem. Apparently a number of markers shipped from the factory dry. I'm wondering if this might be a similar problem with the new mech frames.
I also ended up pre-ordering the IM Pro upgrade kit for shits and giggles. From what I saw, only the new solenoid spool is exclusive to the electronic DSR+. The bolt, back cap and regulator upgrades will work with mech framed DSR+'s and base DSR's as well.

Went out to the field and didn't notice anything too out of the ordinary in regards to efficiency. I will say, though, that when it was out-of-the-box brand new it acted a bit funky the first day I took it out. When I got home I did a full tear-down and service. The bolt and reg looked like they were over-lubed to the point where I had grease oozing out of some of the holes in the can, and the solenoid spool looked pretty dry. After I gave everything a good wipe-down and re-greasing, it's been humming along ever since.
