New .50 revolver from Mercury Rise - The "Torpedo".

Paintball's favorite OEM frequent shoppers Mercury Rise are back with a pair of wacky new plastic pistols!

First up is the Torpedo Revolver.
Internally this thing shares guts with the Umarex TR-50.

The real party piece is the deeper cylinder which allows it to chamber their elongated "Torpedo" rounds.

Perhaps more interesting is this 1911-ish pistol they call the "MUB" which apparently has a velocity adjuster, an absolute rarity in the modern paintball pistol world.

It appears to be based on the Umarex HDP-50, which also had a horizontal internal magazine below the barrel.

OMG why can nobody get this right?

    Able to shoot first strike
    Velocity adjustable

That's probably what 95% of the market would like but nobody seems able to deliver it

Wait, are we talking about .50 caliber First Strike? Is anyone even buying those intentionally?

Why wouldn't you? If you have something like a 6 shot revolver you might as well try to get the most accuracy you can out of those 6 shots

...at least theoretically. Their webpage isn't offering paint-filled .50 Torpedoes yet- only inert powder and pepper.
I'm doubtful that there has been any significant testing of these things against paintball masks anyway, and I'd want to know what the tail section does when it hits bare flesh at 300fps.
Still, these potentially are superior to .50 First Strikes by virtue of the fact that they have roughly twice as much mass/payload in them.

Hold up are these things even being marketed as paintball at all or is it strictly less than lethal self-defense like many of the others?

Not sure about the marketing but it does say, "paintball pistol" right on the front of the box.

They gave one to taoFledermaus and he released a review today:

That revolver looks cool, but doesn't seem able to be regulated down for paintball velocities. 500+ fps with the 1gram powder balls, 325fps with the 3gram rubber-coated ball bearing rounds. A 50cal paintball is 1.25 grams according to google, so it'll be punching out rounds well over 400fps.

Does anyone have a CAD model of the upside down 12gr mechanism? That seems really close to the design of a regulator - wondering if could be modified to act as such. i.e. cartridge acting as a floating piston where by increased pressure would push it toward the pierce seal - which could be used to shut-off flow.

As for the MUB, that's neat... would like to know the velocity with paintballs. Notably, the marketing images are CAD renders that lack what I think is the velocity adjustment feature - a small hole dead center on the back of the 'slide' portion (see attached photo). Also, trying to eject a magazine that still has a ball in it will jam the magazine and require tools to remove it (see video). With paintballs instead of the LL rounds, they might just break and require a full tear down to clean up. I wonder what a full tear down even looks like on these things as they appear to be toy-like in construction. I'm guessing it's just a clamshell with cheap pot metal bits trapped between. I hope they use standard size seals...

That's probably a safe bet. None of Umarex's .68 caliber "shotgun" style markers, save the break-open, double-barreled one, have anything close to an easy disassembly routine, or even barrels that can be removed without undoing half a dozen small screws. That and the magazine quirks probably means the MUB is DOA for paintball use.

At least the old JT US-50 would allow you to access the breech section by removing the cover.

The shaped projectiles in the video seemed to tumble more than spin.

And to bounce as often as break.

Just for everyone's awareness: Even if they got these guns shooting at 300FPS or less, they are not approved for paintball use due to the fact that the round is longer than it's caliber as required by the ASTM specification. They could get approved (included) but, that would require the industry to get together with the ASTM and whatever folks of the public would want to get involved.

That round is not a paintball round though so I don't see the problem. If you are loading paintball you get around that.

Velocity would still be an issue though
