330fps
That's all?
I don't understand this. 300fps is considered safe for paintball, so adding 30fps to that means it's now self defense?
We have all been hit by that hot shot at some point. Does that mean we can sue for assault?
All that aside, might be interesting to see if this could be fielded

Edited because I knew what I was saying in my head, but lack of sleep made it come out wrong and I chose the word add instead of concentrate. Thanks Trbo323 for explaining it better down thereLast edited by JeeperCreeper; 12-12-2023, 12:38 AM.

I do agree that it's a pretty nutty idea that this will protect you
I do want to touch on this though

Well when you load it with hard rubber, or any type of "less lethal round" it's gonna add energy to the impact.
In turn this equally does not affect impact energy into the target (again, narrow window)
If you change the shape of that projectile you are concentrating that energy on a smaller cross section area which can in turn do more damage to that area but if it's round, the same rough density as a paintball and traveling at the same speed as a reball, take a hit and consider this will feel about 10% worse.
As a real world example, about a month ago I was working on a cocker, put 2 reballs in the feedneck to Chrono, pulled the trigger once to chamber the first round and then fired over the Chrono. Chrono didn't read the first one but it sounded a little quiet (turns out it was in the 290 ballpark), brought the marker down and put my off hand over the barrel to feel the next air pulse, pulled the trigger and shot my own hand point blank with a reball. My brain had decided that because I already pulled the trigger twice, it was empty. Hell yes I felt it, my hand was half numb.
But could I have kept going with adrenaline in my system? Absolutely, I could still mostly feel my hand. If I was determined to do, well anything really it wouldn't have stopped me. Hell if I had heard my wife calling me I still would have gotten up to go see what she needed rather than sit there licking my wound. I felt it sure but most of the effects were later like the next day not in the moment.

Changing the projectile doesn't add energy. The launcher can only put X amount in. Even if you load a steel . 68 caliber ball in, within a pretty narrow window it will come out with the same muzzle energy because that's all the launcher can give it. It will come out at a slower velocity but that's made up for by it's larger mass.

Well, surely being hit by this self defense gun must be the exact same experience as being bunkered with reballs. With the main difference being that you might take one hit, rather than the 3+ from being bunkered. Oh, and that being bunkered for sure is point blank.
This gun can hardly be any deterrence whatsoever once the perpetrator gets hit by it. I.e. the deterrence is only effective before actually hitting the perp, when he/she might believe that there is an actual threat, rather than a toy, dressed up as a gun...

Also, are pepper sprays illegal in California and NY?
If so, why (yes I know some dumb political reason) but I'm wondering what the actual reasoning is
If not, how are pepperballs then illegal?
