    MLPB now running NFT scam/grift

Holy smokes a lot of people just lost my respect, Tom Cole #1

If you are young or uninformed about NFTs, they are the scummiest crypto grift around.

Basically you spend a ton of money on a publicly available jpeg and pretend you own it in hopes the next big idiot buys it for a higher price, until the maker cashes out and leaves you with $5k jpgs that are worthless .

For a good thorough documentary watch “Line Goes Up” on youtube

This just shows what the big players in the industry truly care about. Never mind the ~85% of the industry that consists of renters & weekend warriors that are the true backbone of the game.

Any time I think "Hey, I wouldn't mind actually getting serious with tournament paintball" something like this shows up. sigh

That's still a thing? If that's the case, I'll let one of you suckers.... er, I mean lucky individuals, have this one for a cool million.

For considerably less than a million, I'd draw whatever you want. Even Picasso and Michelangelo took commissions.

To me. Anyone who buys NFTs at this point kind of deserves to lose that money. Even the first time I heard about NFTs I was like "that sounds like a stupid investment"

So if this whole thing is aimed at people who can stand to lose money and are dumb enough to give it away, seems like it's just the PB equivalent of fyrefest except all the information about how it's a bad idea is already available.

If people are choosing to ignore it, well that's their loss. I bet they also own every single PE marker that has a .1 or .2 after the name as well because obviously, all those were "revolutionary" and "changed the game" like the advertising all said

Nobody, at least nobody with IQ higher than a potato, actually buys NFT for "legitimate" reasons (quotes, because there are no true legitimate uses). NFT are primarily used for money laundering and tax loss harvesting. NFT and cryptocurrencies are nothing but a grift, used to fleece the rubes, and criminal activity.

              Thanks doc!

Your million is in the mail. I entrusted it to a fine upstanding Nigerian prince who just happened to be headed to Alaska just after I told him how I needed to get a million dollars to you.

NFT as they stand now are scammy sure.. but all they really should be used for is "Tokenization" of an asset.. So the NFT should be tied to something Physical. Adrenaline already issues NFTs as a sort of Cert of authenticity and you get one with each gun I think.

The way they are rolling it out in conjunction with their fantasy league sounds interesting. Buy a players “card” to roster them on your fantasy team and buy/sell/trade the cards as you like.

Sounds like you will be able to gamble on player packs or buy straight from the player you want on your roster. Maybe create some revenue for individual pros, though gonna suck if you aren’t a recognized name already.

Not quite as bad as just buying just an nft, though I shall not be participating personally.

There some not doom and gloom about this news.

But then there's only one team each fantasy player can be on. So let's say you have 500 people who want to play fantasy paintball. What then? Each person only has like 1 or maybe 2 players on their team.

Maybe you have one person who manages to put together a 5 person roster, they are going to dominate just because they bought the NFTs not because they picked the right players.

I don't understand the purpose of them either, other than fancy money laundering or flaunting money.

"A non-fungible token is a unique digital identifier that is recorded on a blockchain and is used to certify ownership and authenticity. It cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided. The ownership of an NFT is recorded in the blockchain and can be transferred by the owner, allowing NFTs to be sold and traded"

martix_agent Yeah, seems like money laundering/flaunting. Reminds me of a thing I saw on TV where the Saudi big wigs meet when new license plates are issued & they auction off certain vanity plates and/or dibs for getting what you want on your plates. At the end of the day it’s still just a license plate.

The interview with Tom Cole and the nft rep alluded to 1st editions, etc plus carry over cards for subsequent seasons. Also the ability for a card owner to trade one in if the player changes teams. Then that traded in card would be removed from circulation.

I guess also by limiting availability they will probably bring more attention to the not superstar personalities. So fans get to know a broader depth of pros.

There was also talk about prize packages for fantasy league winners. Think VIP passes to World Cup or similar was discussed.

I see it as kinda gimmicky but it is a revenue stream for players and the league, that shouldn’t directly impact player costs. With that in mind and Tom’s job being to grow the NXL, it is a logical venture. I wish it success and hope it is a positive for the league.
