I think this looks great.

If this actually ends up being good, I’ll be mildly impressed. Chasing the dream of a closed bolt but having to kneecap it by having the ball fired from the breech instead of the bore for rollout sake seems to undermine the point of closed bolt, and now the paint has to hit the entrance of the barrel at 250fps.
So you’re firing the ball AT the barrel, vs down it, asserting that the little detent and trauma of entry won’t offset the magical closed bolt benefit.
in any case, I hate closed bolt anyway
conspiracy to sell barrel kits.
I should add, it’s certainly not the first marker to shoot like that. The Thumper and Phoenix fire from that position. Oh, and also the Alien Revelation. And perhaps the Ice Epic.
Edit: For whatever reason this thing is now stuck in my head, even calling it closed bolt feels misleading, its a deliberate failure to feed.Last edited by RuleOfSines; 05-16-2025, 04:20 PM.Comment

The Hammer 7, as well as a number of other closed-bolt markers, have done the same thing. In general it's a bad idea unless you plan on always overboring, possibly significantly, depending on the bore of the breach where the ball is held. Using a sizing kit/back/small bore barrel/etc means the ball will be accelerated into a smaller bore, rather than accelerating from a smaller bore as is common in many other closed-bolt markers. This means there is a higher chance of balls breaking in the barrel. The second detent, depending on design, could also impart an unwanted spin on the ball (think Galactic System Z-Body). Closed-bolts should always have the bolt end right where the barrel starts, at least in my unimportant opinion.I can haz feedback?
If I owe you feedback, just remind me, as I sometimes forget.Comment

NO! this is closed bolt period. the barrel does not matter. A CCI unibody is closed bolt.
Balls stacked on top of each other, then fires = open bolt.
Ball resting on the bolt then fires = closed bolt.Comment

Oh I understand the differences. This is just doing things differently than any other closed bolt setup since the ball doesn't go into the barrel until it's fired

agreed, I hope it works out well. Feeding the ball directly into the barrel helps velocity too.
Carbon barrels housed the XL Freak inserts in a similar way, and that seemed to work okay – a positive sign.Comment

Hmmm. Actually kinda dig the milling and the price point. That second detent definitely is giving me pause though....I guess the good news is it the front seems to be long enough that a good machinist could drive the threads deeper (past the second detent) and then just lop the front down to run a traditional underbore. 😂Comment

Or a new body kit, that changes to standard closed bolt. While I am a bit hesitant firing from closed breech into barrel and past a detent, I will save judgement untill it actually released. Seems there could be potentioal for paint breakage. I was told he has been working on this for a couple years, so I am going to assume he is properly testing/tweaking it.Hmmm. I was thinking, open bolt markers have been slamming the ball past detents and into the barrel for a few decades….
It is clever considering you shouldn’t release a marker with rollouts, and you also need to support all the terrible paint these days.

The difference being that due to most bolt designs, the ball tends to self-center against the against the bolt face before entering the barrel. As long as the barrel isn't significantly underbored, the ball will should enter just fine. That said, rarely do people underbore with an open bolt marker. Typically they bore match as closely as possible without underboring, or even slightly overbore. Slightly, or even massively, underboring with an open bolt does tend to lead to more barrel breaks, which kind of proves my point. Close bore matching and underboring is typically done with closed bolt markers, as there is little to gain, and a lot to lose, with an open bolt.

They definitely have been slamming paint past detents for decades, but they haven't been SHOOTING paint past detents for decades. That's what concerns me. Even with a bolt that has some serious force behind it like a Level 7 automag, I'd imagine the bolt and the paintball is still traveling slower then when the paint is actually firing with a full blast of air behind it. Then again I "think" it does take a couple inches for the paintball to accelerate up to full speed in the barrel? Maybe an engineer could confirm that? Meteor does make some really nice stuff and I've always had great experiences with them, so it might work. The local field paint is just so freaking picky that I'm definitely hesitant about anything not tried and tested at this point. I think it's just going to be one of those things that I'll need to actually get my hands on and try out before purchasing.I was thinking, open bolt markers have been slamming the ball past detents and into the barrel for a few decades….

I'm pretty sure paintballs accelerate 3"-5", ok?? Perfectly average control bore -
air is compressible and fluid. something like metal is not. Also, a hard surface rapidly accelerating a ball is very different than a hard surface rapidly coming in contact with a ball. that's why rollback is such a bitch.

When is this coming out? I’ve been checking the site occasionally but nothing so far. Says “Coming in 2025” still.Comment
