There's also a JT Hydra collab coming, it has thin frames with a built in micro misor and the bottoms are shaped like OG spectra, but are rubber kike usual flex, and have the original JT logo on the nose. But also have a hydra logo on the side which is ugly. But everything else is really cool.

Love the look. Guess my old school Proshields with the horizontal vents won't set me apart as an OG any longer though.

Do the hydra collab ones have QLS? Cuz if they don't...

I'm glad Kore made a QLS frame outside of the Proflex X (which is more of an ugly Flex 8). Interested in seeing how it holds up, like if the Q can also stand for "quality" or nah.

No quick change on the collab. Which is surprising. Yeah the Proflex X is the worst thing I've ever seen haha

That is Bad ASS! I suspect it is but, I wonder if it's compatible with the Flex 8 Full Coverage (they make a great base for adding camo). Taking the lenses out of the Full Coverage setup is a serious PITA.

they are saying its completely interchangeable with all the bottoms and ears in the past, which includes the flex 8 i'd imagine since that just uses the same frames as the proflex etc.

I'm glad they learned the lesson from the Proflex X.

Still a bit puzzled they revived the QLS name given how that failed before.

Also might not be obvious, they just have the frames to demonstrate the lens swapping, it can be done without taking the lowers or anything else apart.

I for one would love a Proteus re-release. I'd even be happy with them replacing the rubber bottom portion with plastic. The problem I have with just about every mask out there is that the straps run over the ear such that tightening the strap pulls the sides in tighter onto the ear. With the strap on the proteus being attached behind the ear , it was easy to get a tight mask with zero ear pressure.

My solution to the problem of pressure against the ear: First, use the older hard plastic ears, the ones that extend slightly above the strap. Second, remove the soft foam bar that sits behind the ear and replace it with stiffer EVA foam. I usually cut mine out of scraps from those EVA foam interlocking floor mats meant for garages and home gyms. They're something like 3/8-1/2" thick. You can also build up pads to whatever custom thickness you like by layering pieces cut from the sheets you can buy at the craft store. Those usually come in 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm thicknesses. Just cut to size and super glue each layer together, then attach to the inside of the mask ear with hot glue or outdoor grade double-sided mounting tape. I use 3M mounting tape, which also adds a mm or two of thickness. Best part is that you can also customize the shape, so if you want to extend it all the way down to the jawline, go nuts. EVA foam is comfortable enough but doesn't compress easily, so it maintains the stand-off distance between the mask ear and the side of your head even when you tighten the strap.

Precisely. I have a giant head. Proteus was the only comfortable one to date - and made it so I could hear everything on the field.

Check out the CRBN masks. They are expensive but I think they are the most comfortable mask and offer protection for us pumpkin heads. Last year thy had some marked down to $100 for Black Friday

My biggest gripe with the CRBNs is how heavy they are. Not a huge deal for players, but for us media guys (and refs) who are in a mask for hours straight, it makes a difference. I've found the vios a much better alternative IMO.

I have the Vio extends. Besides crushing my ears, the lack of a sun visor is a serious flaw. The little 'rain visor' is wholly insufficient.

Siress next time we play together remind me to let you try a CRBN mask before I get it all soggy with sweat. Or wait a few games if you’re into that kind of thing.

Regarding the new QLS frames, I'd love to see someone make the outer frame out of aluminum.

Ah, thank you. Maybe once they release them to everyone else, they'll have an option minus the lens and strap.
