Umarex coming out with a .68 SPAS-12 paintball "shotgun"- T4E HDB

    Totally mixed bag here.
220 is both the pre-order price and the advertised velocity.

Unclear whether it's a pump or semi-auto but all the rest of Umarex's paintball stuff so far have been unregulated blow-forward semi-autos, so I would reckon this would be the same. Has what looks like a simple 16-round springfeed magazine tube under the barrel so this is basically a gigantic, 6-pound Sidekick semi.

Also, there's apparently a second weird shotgun on the way from Umarex later this summer: https://www.defconpaintballgear.com/...hotgun-68-cal/

Looks like a good use of their semi-auto system. Feed system is similar to a DSG.

If velocity is non-adjustable yet again, you really have to start wondering what their market is really supposed to be. Everything I've seen from them so far points to the designed use case being dicking around in the back yard or using with pepperball rounds.

Ostensibly these things are designed for the German home defense market, but it's maddening just how close their designs always are to being wonderfully fun for paintball yet missing a key feature or two, usually the velocity adjuster.

I'm not even sure the barrel on this thing is threaded, or easily removable- check out how it appears to be secured to the feedtube with a band of some sort. If there's no good way to clean this thing without fully disassembling it that's a huge red flag for serious players.

They make law enforcement gear and think of paintball as strictly a secondary market, so we barely factor into their decision making if at all. Hence the lack of basic features.

It's also true that milsim types often don't care about velocity adjustment. Or wearing masks, for that matter. That style of paintball seems to attract folks with contempt for silly concepts like safety, especially in non litigious societies (ie not the USA). Here in NZ the local milsim crew were running 68 cal powderball at 350+ fps (or as high as you can get it) and wearing ballistic glasses while playing. If you dared mention safety you'd get chewed out for being a libtard and probably not be invited back. No joke.

On the one hand there's no way I'd play with them, but in the other hand I kinda respected their "like it or eff off" attitude. They were *super strict* about trigger control and such and never had injuries, so, meh.

So either umarex don't know or care about the market and that's why there are core features missing, or they DO know and care about the market... and that's why there are core features missing.

One of the guys at Defcon said that they were working with Umarex on velocity adjustment.

Umarex definitely knows what paintball players want.

I see myself stopping the spring feed regularly with my grip. Lol

I think at this point we kind of have everything we need...bring on the stupid stuff we want! (I want velocity adjustable to 300 fps...)

Can someone help me understand the nerfing that happens with FPS? Like... is there some type of constraint that prevents them from making these pew pew 3 hundo? If I was working at Umarex and in any of those meetings, I'd be like ay hold up now, why are we capping FPS?

Specifically Germany. Any airgun that propels a projectile with more than 7.5 Joules of energy requires a firearms license to own. In England that limit is 16 Joules. In France it's 20.

I'm on Defcon's mailing list and when I saw this for preorder I Goggled but found nothing.
I gather that Defcon is in partner with https://www.umarexusa.com/ to develop and market this?

I'm excited about these two options. If Umarex can't/ will not fix velocity, then this fine think tank will. We solved the TR50 being too high and the HDS being too low. Just another brain teaser for the paintball geezers.
