Posts changing to unread

Is there a setting somewhere that I’m not seeing that changes posts to unread automatically. Today when I logged on every sub forum showed as having unread posts but when you clicked into the sub forum all the posts showed as read. This seems to happen periodically to me.

This happens to me all the time. The only thing I can think of is a comment was posted on a post, that no new post was posted.
