Ahh I see MCB is my only drug of choice lately so I don’t need the app I suppose.

Not to beat a dead horse... But, purely for transparency's sake, I want to give an update on things. Ironically, after Carter and I performed a whole bunch of upgrades over the past few months, the forum performance got worse. The software patches were critically important to prevent hacking and malicious uploads, so there was zero option other than to apply them. The MCB server only runs one web site: this one. However, over the past five years the site storage and the database keeps on growing every day. As the database grows, the server needs more memory: wash, rinse, repeat. I've noticed lots of "bots" and associated web crawlers that index the site. By "lots" I mean thousands concurrently. You can see the count at the bottom of the home page. Often times, there are ~75 logged in users and 8000 bots or more. Over the weekend it was averaging 30,000 bots concurrently. That's a huge drain on server resources with every web connection. The older software seemed to handle the load better, frankly. Anyway, we're doing our best to try and minimize those non-user connections.
One option is to limit what non-logged in users can see. The problem with that is it is harder to attract new users searching for paintball communities if they can't see anything before signing up. That's a catch-22. I think that there might be a way to limit non-logged in users from accessing certain features that are the most resource intensive. It's anything to do with images, particularly when the images get resized on the fly to create thumbnails and such... It's an endless battle. Thanks for being patient when the site is slow, or sometimes down for tinkering.👍 1Comment

Lrrpie, that's a good idea. Yes it's a catch 22, but one I'm willing to work with. I'll just have to lock down what non users see so the crawling bots are not overloading the system. Sorry guests.I am the admin...Comment

It suddenly got a lot faster in here just now.Dulce et decorum est pro comoedia moriOriginally posted by Phantom1313now you can loudly shout “I know things” and nobody can argue with you when you wildly wave your masters degree in front to them👍 1Comment

Yes, quite noticeable. I'm not sure if Lrrpie made some changes too, but I shut off guest access to search, advanced search, who's online, membership list, etc. The excessive bots crawling those pages force the site to work overtime every time the bots load a page, even just the who's online needs to be run. Of course if the bots were in the search section that would be massive load too. I might tackle some more, but let's see how this goes plus adding some more ram to the server.I am the admin...👍 1Comment

I did. This is a public subforum so I won't post everything here. I upped the "hardware" and made a few server config changes. I see the difference too, today, but I don't want to get cocky and claim victory. Carter did a whole bunch of maintenance, too, which I am sure is very helpful.Comment
...Most of them are empty though.
