    Avatar Requirements?

I've been playing around with animated gifs for avatars and I'm wondering what the file requirements are for the new site. Several images I've created have resulted in severe artifacts when applied. If there are any file size restrictions or other requirements, it would be helpful to know what they are.

Thanks, Flounder. It looks like there must some kind of compression or else avatars must be processed differently than other gifs when used as avatars. For example, these are two animated gifs I created and attempted to use as my avatar. Both are less than 500 x 500 dpi and 100,000 bytes. When viewed in a post, they appear clear. When used as an avatar, they become difficult to see with thousands of artifacts. I'm fine using the one I have at the moment. Its file size is small and it has very few frames of animation to it. I just wanted to see what the new site is capable of.

By the way Flounder , I took the liberty of recreating your avatar. This time the loop is continuous and it meets the new requirements you gave me.

Beats the crap out of me. I just uploaded my old avatar and I had to fiddle with the cropping.
