My local supplier is checking on material prices for me. I've been forewarned to expect sticker shock.

Hey doc - question came to mind while I see you at top of thread --- what's your POV on how tight/loose the insert should be on milled, metal-to-metal backs like these?

Internet is full of opinions on this and I'm sure you've given it some thought. TIA!

        Moar Brass!

I splurged on another stick of brass material, which just came in today! I still need to pick it up, but I should have the material for an even dozen backs.

Material cost alone has gone up a full 30% since the last run, so I gotta raise the finished price, too. Just to keep it off the dreaded three digits, call it $99 each, for the same options: 'Cocker thread, straight-sided or profiled (wasp-waisted, see earlier pics) and either 5" or 8" XL inserts. Add $10 for full polish.

Other threads are possible- Phantom, ICD, Shocker, etc.- but will be a small additional charge.

Given the prices, this is probably the last run I'll make of these, so get 'em while you can! PM me to get on the list, though due to costs, I'll ask for payment to get on said list. The machines are running Freaks now, so I should be able to start shipping in a week, maybe two at the outside.

        And as always, thank you!
        Doc.

Still add $10 shipping? So they're $119 for full polish? That's very fair, you've kept the price effectively the same. I'll send a PM 😊

-This is an issue? The cross section of neither back nor insert is thick enough for there to be any meaningful expansion or contraction due to temperatures, so really, as long as the bore of the back isn't too tight the insert can seize, or too loose the back can rattle, there shouldn't be any difference.

I use off-the-shelf tubing that has a ready-to-go bore (same material that SP themselves used) that averages between .003" and .005", depending on the OD of the insert itself (which varies between lots almost that much.)

Picked up the material today, and hoping to run some this weekend. I'm a little behind on my PMs, but I want to make sure everyone gets what they want- we don't have much to spare, here.

Stand by, I'm trying to juggle about two dozen tasks right now.

              Catching up on PM's now.

But, in the meantime I would like to publicly announce that I'm an idiot. I said, above, that I should have material for a dozen backs? It was a 12' bar. The backs are slightly over 6". I have enough for at least 22 backs, not a dozen.

I swear, I'm not far from being able to hide my own damn Easter eggs.

Hey man! I PMed you here and we spoke briefly via email. I don’t know if I officially made it on the list, but I want to put my name down for both a brass back and front if possible. Thank you!

I’ll take a profiled plain and tip if you’re making them. I’ll PM you as well.
