If you have an android, there is a handy feature baked into the stock camera app called lasso that lets you effectively perfectly trim the item of interest out of any photo. I use that to get rid of all the surrounding BG from an item and then i can one click superimpose it over whatever color background. That's helped a lot for having a clean image of just the thing of interest. you can even lasso in whatever item for measure in the photo so they're together.
