    Tapping rear of phantom valve

Want to tap my phantom valve for a gauge to see how low I am on my 12 grams on the phantom.

Good or bad idea? I personally like it and have an example at home, however I've heard it's kinda useless.

I dont think there is value doing this mod, the CO2 is liquid so you will read the vapor pressure until there is almost no liquid i the 12 g and at that point the pressure will drop a lot quicker so you might see it couple of shot before its done but you might already see the ball slowing down

I usually count my shot to know when to change my 12g

Bad idea. Your shots will tell you when to change your 12g. If you're in doubt, the gauge isn't going to help you anyway. And it just adds another joint where you could leak air.

That said, I have a gauge on mine because I used to use that port as the inlet. May as well add a gauge when I went back to the side inlet. The setup below allowed me to run the 4oz tank as my primary with a backup for 12g in case I ran out.

Here is what I find a guage useful for on a Phantom calve, the beginning of the game.
It's a hot or cold day.
The guage is drastically different than last time you played, you know you are going to need some extra time at Chrono. Once you have been doing this a while and know your setup well you might even know that you should turn or switch a spring before heading to Chrono to dial it in.
After a game you pick the gun up and check the guage and realize that the 12ie is empty or darn close to it. Change it before you go it.

A regulator or HPA (or both) solve that issue in a proactive way.

My VCS setup has a rear gauge for 12 gram pressure reading.

when I have the back bottle on it, it does not have a gauge as I use the tank gauge.

By the time that gage starts to drop you should have already done a change out. Knowing your setups efficiency is part of playing stock class. I’m not looking at a gage in the middle of a game. I hardly see how it’s helpful, and those lil gages break all the time.

                  • Gage on the back of the valve necessary? Nope not needed.
                  • Gage on the back of the valve going to hurt anything? Nope no better or no worse then any other penetration into the pressurized system.
                  • Gage on the back of the valve useful? Maybe while it is a poor indicator of a need to change a CO2 cartridge during play it can be used in diagnostics of problems and the ability between games as a reminder of whether a cartridge installed is beyond useful range or not.

I personally would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it but you do you.....

You have a point. I'm going to try the marker first and see how it performs at this point before I decide a direction.

Only real world use of the gage is to tell of your marker is aired up honestly that’s about it. It won’t hurt anything but it’s not something I would add to a phantom. If I was ordering a Phantom I would request it didn’t have a gaged valve. But it’s really up to you what you want. Don’t let me talk you out of it. That’s the great part about the phantom is making it your own.

No you did, but that's a good thing because I was under the impression it was more beneficial than it really was. I've been internally waring with weither I thought it looked good with my set up or not.
