    Center feed SL-68 II

Cooler weather has motivated me to dive back into paintball and paintball projects! This is a custom tippmann sl-68 I'm working on. Right feed cut off and welded on a diy center feed feed neck. Made a 14 inch brass barrel that accepts freak inserts, and removed sight rail. This thing shoots great! I love the pump and the ergonomics of the sl68, but hate right feed and the stock barrel. After the modifications I'm pretty sure I like it more than my phantom. Still on the to do list is: polish the barrel, make a black walnut pump handle, clean up the welds and powder coat the body.

That’s cool welding the cast body must have been a nightmare. Super cool idea tho.

You were able to get a good weld on it?

Honestly if you fill em with JB weld I bet you can sand it smooth and throw a nice rattle can job on it. As long as the weld is good. I cut the feed neck off one made the side port larger so you can drop FS rounds into it. Then used an old tube to re shape the breach ware the feedneck use to be with JB weld sanded and painted it. Came out looking pretty good all said and done. I think ToTall still has it.

It feeds good. I haven't played with it yet just shot maybe 200 balls through it but so far so good. Before holding an sl68 I assumed the ergonomics were horrible by the way it looks but I actually love it, and the tank sits in the perfect spot. Yours sounds cool! Have any pics of it?

I do on an old phone. I shot him a message to see if he still has it. He had deadly wind make a barrel for it and it was a lot of fun to shoot. I wouldn’t mind getting it back if he still has it. I had pictures posted pre hack in the build thread. I agree they feel great in the hand. Especially with a nice 2” round tank out the back.

What did you do exactly to have the barrel accept freak inserts and to keep them in place so the bolt oring didn’t grab them and pull them back into the gun?

You can get brass tubing that is the exact ID to fit a freak insert. Then I turned down the OD of a smaller pipe to make the tip, and soldered that in. The fit of the insert is tight enough where it doesn't move, but can still be removed.

I'll check and see if I have any extra brass. I could make you one if you have an sl68

Awesome!! I had a centerfeed SL68 many years ago. I got it in a trade here on MCB. It originally used a direct feed adapter for a PT Xtreme or some other STBB pistol. I converted it to stock class. I sold it to another member here, who last i heard still had it.

That's awesome! That pump handle is cool!

Made a pump handle out of some purple rain forest wood. I decided to spray paint the body instead of paying 30 bucks for some powder I'd only use once. But I'm not really happy with the color. Still gotta get a 12g changer and make a speed feed for the tube feed, but in the mean time a 50 cal case works well as a plug.

Final pictures of the build. Went with a different purple. May still anodize the changer to match, but for now it's done. I love that you can so easily change from stock class to open class!
