    .50 Cal Sniper

So I know several guys who want to try paintball and bring their kids (ages 10-14), but they worry about the horror stories of huge bloody welts. I needed more 50 .cal markers to get them on the field, so I made a .50 cal conversion kit for a sniper.

The bolt extends past where it normally would, and has a drop hole in the top. When the pump handle is forward it slides into the opening of the barrel sealing the drop hole. I also made an insert for the hopper. I also put tiny nubs in the bolt as a ball detent.

I shot about 100 rounds and only had 1 break. Once I sand down the barrel, it should stop the breaks.

I made a second bolt that extends inside a normal .68cal barrel, so from all appearances it looks like .68 cal, but really it is .50 cal, thought that would raise some eyebrows at a actual field with refs though.

Is there any reason this would not work with an autococker? Is there any chance you'd be willing to make and sell this as a kit?

Theoretically it should work just fine. However, when I pump this really fast it doesn't seem to load a ball. I can shoot probably 3 bps without an issue, but if I pump super fast it just doesn't load. The drop hole is the exact size of the feed tube, so it seems odd to me. I think the issue is that there is an insert for the hopper to keep the balls stacked one on top of the other, but once it opens up to the feedneck of the gun it goes back to .68 cal. This means the balls are stacking funny and when it opens I don't think it has the right downward force to drop straight in. So I need to make a tube that drops down further into the marker. The issue with that is I can't make it universal as all markers are different.

So with the cycle speed of a cocker I am not sure. I can give it a shot though, I sure have enough cockers to test it out on!

looks great, if you sort out some of the design challenges, and this become a drop in kit, let me know!

Even better, send the prototype to Doc Nickel to reproduce in aluminum!

I have delrin finament I could print it in. Although I am sure a milled piece of delrin would be way better than fdm.

The best thing would be a .50 cal type freak insert. I could design the bold to wrap around the insert to load the ball in the insert and fire from there.

Print a bar if delrin, then mill the bar. Best of both worlds, and also the worst!

I think custom drop in kits might be the only option for .50 cal right now

          Any .50 cal barrel available?
I could see a delrin sleve/barrel adapter that screw into the .68cal cocker thread , hold the .50cal barrel an run up to the breach and have a custom bolt to match the breach ...

That way you don't have a 3D printed barrel ...

          Any one got a spare/loose .50Cal barrel? For the science ... 😅

I have a couple of 50 cal barrels for spyders but none for cockers. If i need to send a couple to be chopped up and rethreaded i will!

Not wanting to highjack this thread, but thanks to @SETHZILLA! I put my hand on a few barrels.
I managed to re-thread them for cocker and they fit nicely on cocker, but thats where i stopped. Now i need to put my hand on a standard bolt as teh only one i have on hand is a half block one ...

Savet I really dropped the ball on this one and I am sorry!

So I worked on this a bit more and I got it working well, but I was still having problems with barrel breaks. Sometimes I could get quite a few shots off before I would have a break, but the .50cal was not easy to swab since I didn't have one made for that. Also, if I had a swab I didn't think the barrel/bolt would clean well as it is not as slick as metal. So I contacted PE and long story short I had to buy a Etek 5 conversion kit to get a cocker barrel (They were absolutely great and did give me a bit of a discount since I didn't care about anything but the barrel).

Anyway, I made a new bolt and ended up creating a drop in insert for the chamber so the ball was level with the barrel. It worked well, but I was annoyed that due to the small opening on the bolt I had to really crank up the FPS to get up to 280fps. Well, I was working on that problem when I screwed up and some how in my haste shot some .50 cal out of the gun and it worked perfectly! In fact it was shooting way too fast. I then realized I didn't swap out the parts and I was using all .68cal parts with the .50cal barrel. So I did some testing, and it worked great, if I tried pumping super fast (autotriggering on a empire sniper) the ball would not make it into the barrel properly and pop. However, normal non-auto trigger play was perfect! I went and played some games with it and we had a blast, but they quickly wanted to upgrade to .68 and I haven't touched the barrel since!

So in my experience all you need is a .50cal barrel.
