    A Journey to be cheap (PMI,ACI side-cocking bolt) 3d printed

    This is a story of one mans wants to build a cheap stock class blaster, and his wants to employ his 3d printer.

    I found a file for a "Recceslide" floating around the nets (Believe it's by one of MCB's own). I have had an old ACI Hornet in a box for years and decided I wanted to convert it.

    After sourcing a Trracer body and BT/Empire bolt, I came to find out that an adjustable bolt wasn't as easy to find as when i purchased the Hornet in the first place. 😉

    So I decided I was going to try and model one, and I wasn't gonna let a simple thing like never having touched modeling software or drawn a CAD bit in my life stand in the way.
    I grabbed some veneer calipers, the BT bolt, and started stacking cylinders.

    After about an hour and 1 phone call to a buddy who sorta knew what he was doing and I had an okay looking protoype!

    ....30 seconds later I had it loaded into my slicer.

    ..and roughly 1 minute later it was being formed before my eyes.

    It will need some reiteration, currently it's designed to take a washer stack in the rear to raise velocity, and I am looking at making a metal rim "Sleeve" for it to act as the catch for the sear.

        The catch lip is the weakest area, trying to bolster it in the files, if that fails, I'll be producing a metal catch lip to press fit or attach with grub screw.

        DieManInTheRough you could probably find an off-the-shelf flange bushing for that. Won't be as durable as steel, but would last a good while and be cheap and easy to repair in the future. The lip on my brass Hammer bolt is still in nice shape.

      It looks spot on! Give it a try and see how it works. I'm with Ecapnation and think that when it mates together with the hammer you'll have issues there first.

        It’ll never last. A Cocker bolt? Sure, but not a Nelson. You should have just borrowed someone’s lathe for a day and skipped all the computer stuff.

        More unsolicited advice: a well done (ie: original, unmodified, not rusty) Trracer/Hornet will shoot 283 on CO2 and stock springs. Having an adjustable bolt isn’t absolutely required, neither is an extra large pump handle. If resources are low, it’s best to focus on the most basic needs first.

          That would be amazing if c02 were available in any capacity where I am. This is going to be run on HPA. I may just do that if this project fails, Bacci has plenty of non-adjustable bolts in stock.

          You said this was going to be stock class though. Stock class is a tube in the feedneck, and 12g powerlets.

        I agree, Maverick/Trracer/Hornets are some consistent performers at a reasonable price. But, a little customization here and there never hurt anyone.

          Yes it is. I sold this one a couple years ago, but I have a Maverick with the Reconslide.

        For the sear catch, you could try a washer that is partially captured in the center by the print. Might be a weird washer size though. :/

        PETG might last a little while at the pump arm connection, since it's not a constant stress. You could press in a little piece of tubing there.

        With the Nelson power tube going through, i guess it doesn't have a lot firing stress (gas pressure).

        You need to test to failure before playing, to get some confidence that it won't be spitting parts out.

          For sure! The power tube itself is bolstering the bolt alot, and as you said there is no firing stress on the bolt itself. I can press in heatserts for the pump arm,but I think there is enough meat there with the proper bolt screws there wont be much issue.
