Anyone ever made an ASA clamp?

Working on a mid 2000s regulator today, before the industry really started putting a hex in the top of the reg to take it apart. So, had to grab the top end with some pliers which left a small mark and it occurred to me, why has nobody made something to clamp the top end of a regulator?

I'm thinking about chopping a ASA in half and putting it in my vice to hold the top end of a regulator but figured I'd ask if anyone has ever made a block of aluminum/steel to do this?

people have created exactly what you are talking about with a halved ASA vice grips and a welder. if there is anything else out there, its as custom as the vicegrips

It's probably because it's late here but I'm not following your idea 😪 How would cutting an ASA in half and mounting in a vice hold the reg?

I'd first try a strap wrench. If it did not budge, bust out the vice grips with rounded jaws, cushion the reg with a piece of rubber cut from the end of the strap wrench.

Lol, was sitting here thinking about it and was like, I have spare asa's and a flex shaft so I just went and made one. It works great. Not sure why it took me so long to think this up

minimag03 put the reg in the two halfs of the ASA, put the ASA in the vice that way because of the cut in the ASA the vice can allow the threads in the ASA to clamp down on the top of the reg and I avoid putting any marks in the reg to hold it tight

I came up with this to take apart my WGP regs. It's an adjustment collar from smart parts inline maxflow reg and a tank reg extender with wrench flats. Tightening them together and using the bottom collar works really good a opening the regs up.

That's a pretty good solution as well

I did the same thing cutting a spare Ion ASA in half just a couple days ago. It looks like scrap metal but I'm sure it'll come in handy again in the future.

This is the one SSC made back a while ago. I don’t recommend ordering anything from him that’s not in stock. But he made some cool Paintball specific tools.

🤫 I don’t kiss and tell. I might know of a few green ones but I haven’t checked lately. I knew of a stash of NOS. I know of some CP on offs too. If I get a chance to get over there I will shoot you a PM.

I love tools that make my life easier.

                    1.Piercing pin removal tool
                    2. CCM AT cam lock (only way to do it)
                    3. Feed Neck removal
4.VASA tool (annoying odd odd shaped bolt on old cockers)
                    5. Reg removal tool

I contacted SSC a few years back about some of these, but he's no longer making them. I ended up just picking up a brass CGA320 nut and had it cut in half and braised on to some vice-grips. Not as pretty or strong, but it's brass, so less likely to cause any cosmetic damage.
                      I can haz feedback?

Brass I bet works even better. You still need to be careful with mine because it can damage the threads due to the mechanical clamping force you can apply. I won’t use it for removing bottle regs it will strip the threads out for sure.

I've made a couple different styles for myself and friends.

A 3d printed threaded block with a flextures for holding in a vice or with knipex parallel jaw pliers. Same idea with the split brass hex stock, the screws are just to hold the two halves together.

A copy of the SSC vice-grips, but with brass jaws.
