larger firing chamber didn't increase velocity

I'm working on an ION project and wanted to increase the firing can volume to decrease the op pressure. I built a second chamber (1.5ci) and connected to the original chamber using 4mm hoses. Nothing happened with regards to velocity.

stock 10 shot average was 280.9
modded 10 shot average was 281

airflow path is; Tank - reg- 2nd cham- stock chamber

what went wrong?

You are probably hitting choked flow conditions - the first chamber rapidly depressurizes, and your flow ends up limited by the 4mm orifice diameters.

I'll take a picture and upload when I get a chance. I don't have a pressure gauge on the setup. North of 160. In testing 160 only achieved 250fps

any ideas what size I should up the hoses to? 6mm or 1/4"?

You haven't increased the dump chamber size, you've just added a large reserve of air behind it that still needs to flow through a relatively small hole and past the bolt tail. And, if you're running a dual tail oring bolt, the extra volume isn't getting into the dump anyways.

You would need to drill into the side of the body and add a large tube between your extra volume and the actual dump to get the effect you're looking for.

Why the need for lower OP?

Got it. that makes since. wasn't even thinking about the bolt tail sealing the dump.

Lower OP is just to make it quieter. Adding the extra chamber isn't hard to fit in the Tavor shell so I thought why not.

Ported barrel isn't possible because I use rifled barrels.

I'm also working on a way to use the L7 bolt but my actuator seems to be restricting the flow some how.

I find most markers will be loud with unported barrels, regardless of operating pressure... although Ions are fairly quiet, most of their noise seems to be from cycling. They sound like nail guns.

AFAIK, LF bolts don't work with a mech setup, if you figure it out I'd be interested in seeing what had to be done.

So is works but I had to contact clippard because the valve gets stuck after a few shots. Tech support said it should work.

I'm using a MJVO/MPA/MEV combo being controlled by the N.C port from the SMAV.

tech emailed back and confirmed it's defective. so have to wait for the new one to come to continue testing

For the record. I've seen a plug mod where a lvl 7 would work on a mech, but I cant recall who, where, or when, but it was at the time I meched my ion and was told I needed a new bolt. Months after I boughta new bolt, and sold my lvl7, I saw someone post about successfully making it work.
