Blazer barrel build for El Gringo

    I think that's Spanish for <Chris Farley> "the Gringo </Chris Farley>.

I was asked if I thought I could build something like the CF barrel I made for one of my brass builds (now owned by Grendel ), and after some cogitation, figured I just might be able to come up with something that could work.

Blazers having such a thin "thread" section where the barrel is retained in the breech meant the 21mm OD tube I used on my original build wouldn't work, so I needed an alternative solution. I found some 20mm OD thinwall CF tube that seems like it'll do the trick - it's a tiny bit smaller in diameter than a Blazer barrel by about 0.008" (0.787 vs 0.795) but I think the clamp should still work. Might need to shim with a bit of tape - I don't have a Blazer to test-fit, unfortunately.

The insert isn't flush with the end either - Blazer bolts enter the barrel by roughly 1/4", and users report any inserts smaller than .687 tend to jam the bolt up, so I have a short section (~3/8") of barrel tube that inserts into the barrel to retain the insert and allow space for the bolt. The retainer is loosely friction fit into the barrel and will be retained by the breech step.

I've got a couple ideas for porting, and possibly a beauty ring a la BOA Snake bite - we'll see. Loosely assembled to test fitment and function before anything else, we've got this:

Well damn I like that too!

I happen to have a Pyre that could benefit from a barrel like that. I can send you up my Pyre for test fitting if you would like I'm done playing paintball for a few months anyway while the doctors stuff my guts back in through my hernia and sew things up.

If I might make a suggestion, extend the brass section a little further into the barrel and put Wedgits where the ball will sit. On my Pyre and the Blazers I've had I fell in love with Wedgits. 0.687 barrels with Wedgits will shoot pretty much any paint we get now without breaking the paint.

This barrel takes Freak XL inserts, like the one on yours, just with the extra "step" for bolt clearance. I don't know if there would be a point to wedgits in this case, but it's something I might explore on another version... I have some .685 barrel stock somewhere.

Might be fun! I'll have to come up with another build idea to use 'em on first. 🙂

Ported and polished and epoxied in place.

Fun build, it's interesting working with CF.

Amazon - 20mm OD, .5mm wall thickness (19mm ID, fits Freak inserts perfectly).

I've been looking for something similar for beefing up a deadly wind barrel to take out the pump slop on my SL-68II have tried searching amazon 10 ways to tuesday but cannot find this .5mm wall tube you speak of! (I've only found it from china or a german company off amazon.) I need 21mm ID, 22MM OD any way you could post a link....

Well thank you for leading me down a rabbit hole lol. At first I ordered 19mmx20mm… and it’s just too thin for me to confidently use without worrying about destroying the barrel/insert… I mean I guess I could play around with some destructive testing to see how it holds up, but I ordered a few pieces of 19mmID x 22m OD and that feels great! I don’t have the same dimension limitations you do so the thicker CF “Feels” safer. Now I just gotta wait for doc to build those cocker threaded backs to build some stuff. Either that or I cut down/mod some of the useless cocker barrels I have laying around here.

I used 21mmx19mm on my other project which seemed pretty adequate but the 22mm should be even safer. Good luck with your projects! 🙂

Got my Blazer barrel from Jordan a week ago and just hadn't have time to post but here it is.
Fit and finish are great. Hopefully will get a chance to use it next weekend.

Looks good! How's the balance on it? I made the tip short to avoid it being front heavy.

Balance is nice. So used to a brass barrel and the weight of it, this feels super light. I think the slight weight of the brass on the front will be awesome shooting her.
