More brass wizardry a-brewing.

I think I might have had you guys worried... don't worry, I'm still building.

So, I built a pump earlier this year:



It's got all the bells and whistles - I took what I like the most from my various pumps I've built and cccccccombo-ed it all together (ID Drift pump kit, bolt, sled, Palmers LT valve, ATTKTX Gold Chamber modified into Mini format, slide frame, etc). It points well, feels great, and I'm super happy with how it turned out.

That led me to what is likely the same reason Cockers were created - if I had a pump I really liked, what if I made it into a semi to keep all that goodness without the arm workout? I knew wasn't going to be able to just toss a frontblock and pneumatics on the pump, so I'd have to build another chassis, but with automation in mind from the beginning.

With that in mind, I started the list on what I wanted - Cocker thread, 11/16" internals, slide frame, midblock, body-mount pneumatics, vertical feed. I decided to stay away from a Mini format and use a Meteor Red Chamber to create the valve chamber/frame screw mount/vertical ASA mount (thanks to latches109 for getting one to me).

More to happen over the next few weeks... some more mods to the upper and lower tubes, hotwork still needed, and a bunch of parts to order up, like internals and pneumatics. Should be pretty cool if I can make it all work.

I think that is the consensus, that Glenn put pneumatics on a pump before Budd did, correct ?

Got the top tube soldered on along with the ram mount and 3way... probably all I'll do for a bit, it's gonna be a scorcher this week.

Maybe... I'm not really a fan of polished brass so we'll see how I feel.

If it ends up working like i want it to, I might beadblast it and nickel plate it.

Intentional patina, perhaps? I just added a brass hardline to my Pyre that I need to patina to match the other brass bits.

Timing rod and pump arm done, feedneck soldered on... only thing left is a detent and then final assembly/testing.




Bought a bunch of parts to help with finishing it off, hopefully see them in a few weeks.

I think it's turning out ok so far.

A polish or Co2?

Neither will likely happen, no one fills Co2 around here and I don't like polished brass, at least not complete markers. Accents are fine.

More progress - finalized the hotwork, drilled and tapped for a detent, rebuilt the ram, and sprayed the body with high temp wrinkle paint as per usual.

Just waiting for everything I ordered to arrive, which should be this week.

I'm waiting for my ID order to arrive still - detent and bolt - and my ACP order, but enough of my other bits and bobs have arrived that I was able to install the internals the other night.

Simon's valves do not fit without modification, as a heads up to anyone building something similar. I had to sand the valve's OD down slightly and polish it in order for it to slide into my lower tube easily.

But... after waiting the requisite period of time for the Loctite to cure, I aired it up this morning and shot a couple rounds through it. No leaks!

I've ordered a couple of elbows to finalize the pneumatics install, and then I can time it and tweak everything else once the rest of my parts arrive.

I'm impatient and had about 10 minutes this morning so I made a quick and dirty elbow to go in the LPR.



The loctite should good by tonight and I'll have a go at timing it.

For anyone thinking they can't do stuff like this, I have a Dremel with a broken speed dial and a janky drill press. You don't need any fancy tools to start.
