    Whats that smell?

Preface to my question: I do not partake of recreational medicinals in any form... unless you want to count caffeine. Ok, very, very rarely even drink any form of alcohol.

That said, what does pot smell like to you? I always thought it smelled like an alfalfa dehydrating plant. However, I have been told by a campus cop that it can smell like a skunk. Is this really a thing? Can it really smell like Pepe Le Pew?

Yes it can. Smells horrible. I would say worse than a skunk. I'm not 100% but I believe it's because it's synthetic when it smells like that.

One of its nicknames is skunk. Or, at least that's one of the names we called it. It isn't as pungent, but definitely resembles it.

I was thinking of exactly this when I started reading this thread.

        Smells like skunk.

Thanks to our illustrious government pot is legal in Canada and everyone jumped on the grow-op bandwagon in Ontario... so anywhere there were greenhouses there are grow-ops now. When they vent the greenhouses at night all you can smell is skunk... it's gross.

I do not understand how anyone can enjoy marijuana when it smells like the anal gland secretions of a small mammal.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

I think they smoke it and eat it. Haven't seen any marijuana candles in my time.

Any time I get into a pot smoker's car all I can smell is skunk.... very enjoyable when stuck in a car for 8 hours changing a heater core with that smell constantly present.

(They actually do make CBD oil infused candles, no idea on how badly they smell.)

I dunno, in my expierence it can smell anywhere from fresh dog shit, pine essence, sweet and earthy, skunky, to downright sour.

All depends on the strain, and or if you are referencing the fresh/ growing smell, or the burned smoke smell.

I for one enjoy the smell. It beats the hell outta the smell of tobacco, which people have been spreading around for as long as Ive been alive.

This was always my impression. It doesn't help when it has been cut. I've smelled some that I could swear it was cut with bermuda grass; I could almost tell which variety of bermuda.

Smell of fresh weed gives me a fairly instant excruciating headache, I can't be around the stuff. I have fairly bad allergies and weed must be towards the top of the list

The worse it smells the better it smokes usually. My favorites were always dogshit, diesel, and mass super skunk.

Aroma profiles are all over the place these days. Girl scout cookies, citrus cleaners, racing fuel, soap, pinesol, you name it.

Im weird i guess since I like the smell of weed and tobacco. Exotic strains can have some very unique smells. Lemon strains are my personal fav, the two scents pair quite nicely.

Skunk? Never smelled weed that smelled like a skunk. You guys must have smelled some pretty sweet smelling skunks.

For me it's a pine like smell, very rich, with maybe some citrus. Perhaps even floral to some extent. Depends on the strain obviously and also how well it's been grown. Cured weed smells far different from fresh, growing pot plants.

Can't imagine not liking the smell, it's like smelling wine and hating it or smelling a good pipe tobacco and thinking it smelled like dirt.

Mass super skunk could clear a room. Open a bag and you'd pull your head back it was so pungent. Another one that could do that was roadkill skunk. Back in the good old prohibition days it was a nightmare to try and carry around or transport.

The "skunk" variety branched decades ago into a more sweet taste/smell while still maintaining the same genetic profile. That's what's really floating around these days. Orange Bud, for example, smells like an orange grove but is still genetically skunk. Just a sweet orange phenotype.

I also hate the smell of wine and pipe tobacco. Gross.

If you're ever in Canada come visit my neck of the woods on a hot August night and tell me it doesn't smell like skunk roadkill.

On an interesting side note, here in Alaska where it's legal, the growers have to use very elaborate air filtration systems to filter out the smell or if it's an outdoor grow there are limits as to how close it can be to populated areas because of the smell. Of course almost nobody grows outside because it would just freeze in the spring, fall, and winter. Stores also have to use blackout blinds and have limits on how much they can advertise so that the "more impressionable" won't be tempted to step foot into a pot store.

Jordan, sounds like Canada doesn't have such regulations which is really too bad because it forces the smell on people like you who don't enjoy it. I know what you mean though, I drove by a greenhouse in a rural area and it was VERY pungent. Can't imagine living next to them. As much as I enjoy the smell I don't think I like it that much.

California air freshener? Drive any freeway in SoCal windows down and you will catch a whiff.

Honestly the strains are changing so much that the smell can vary wildly. Terpenes usually contribute citrus-y notes, which are currently really popular. I find that traditionally dank and earthy notes are less desirable nowadays. Smell no longer indicates potency, since lab testing is now widely available.

IIRC there are a few growers trying to develop a "No Smell" strain.

Definitely smells like a skunk. I've also heard pine cones but I've never gotten that one myself.
