Anyone else shave like a man?

I use the scissors in my swiss army knife for the mustache at my convenience almost daily.
And a current style braun (blue kind) shaver for the smooth skin parts, and the super T trimmer first because I usually let those parts grow out for around a week.

The new braun has a trimmer attachment that is garbage versus my old series 5 but the shaver aspect is superior. https://us.braun.com/en-us/male-groo.../series-3-310s unfortunately the trimmer part of these shavers is rarely featured in their literature / media so its hard to know which one has a good trimmer. I really like my older series 5 trimmer and could get by without the super T with just that one.

I started with mach 3's, always rash producing for me despite different shaving creams and stuff.

Got a braun series 5 electric, also rashy

Finally discovered my personal calling which was to use the trimmer part of the braun on my face and use the shaving part on the high cheek thin hairs and on the neck area for a sort of permanent 5 oclock shadow that lets my face skin remain unbothered.

Then I tried double edge safety razors with a quality unit and various blades and good brush and cream and it was nice but ultimately just too irritaitng even though I really wanted it to work.

Went back to the shaver with no guard. I start with a super T trimmer and then finish with the rounded trimmer from the braun, and clean up around the margins all the way to skin in limited areas.

Last few months I've been growing the beard out and thats been nice. A few weeks ago I got the beard trimmed and it included straight razor shaving in the non beard areas and even that still caused substantial irritation for me despite a trusted barber doing it in a good situation. So I don't have much hope that a straight razor would work for me, but that would be my next choice along with a badger brush and maybe I'd figure out a way to make my own shaving cream to go along with the straight razor that I keep sharp myself because even DE blades are a razor sales scam.

So now its a beard, a simple beard oil and keeping the mustache trimmed. I like it and will probably be bearded for the rest of my life.

Though honestly I wish I could be clean shaven all the time and not in a state of itch healing. I think my skin just rides up the hair base and even with some serious pre shave brushing to condition the skin down it doesn't seem to get cut smooth and have any hope of not feeling like a red hot thing.

So yeah beard or just a close trim for me. Close trim is really the most comfortable but I decided not to have sandpaper face for my loved ones.

I hear this, I haven't had to buy shaving stuff in a while but I do occassionally buy some other stuff from a friend that runs a mens shaving/grooming supply store.

Originally started with cartridge style razors. Went over to a straight razor, but felt it took way to long (at least compared to cartridge).

Sold that and picked up a couple old-school Gillette DE razors, and went with that for a while.

However, I haven't clean shaved in years now. The wife likes stubble, so I just use clippers with no guard. Super fast and easy.

Started cartridge, hated it b/c I never shave every day. Tried electric, hated it but seemed to work better with my lazy shave schedule. Tried straight edge and that was cool... but seems to take forever.

Now that I got the double chin growing in... or whatever you call a sagging lower jaw line I just let my scruffy beard grow. I look like a unkempt scrub in his mid 20's (minus the grey hair) instead of a clean shaven dad in his late 30's.

Does anyone else see the irony that shaving "like a man" requires decorative baskets full of carefully arranged creams, lotions, scents, and presumably personal massaging devices?

My entire face is nothing but scar tissue, I lather with sand paper, and germs incinerate on their own accord from the 10 trillion Einsteins of radiant energy that I bask in at all hours.

I use an Edwin Jagger razor, cause F cartridge blades. I haven't had to buy shaving supplies, except for cream, in 2 years. Saved literally thousands of dollars, and it is a much better shave.

Same here. I hate shaving. So many better things I can do with my time. But I do drag the electric trimmer down my neck once a week to keep that down.

Same, except I just kicked it back into gear in the last year. I was an easy "stay at home" hobby to revisit.

I haven't shaved with a blade since I was a teenager. My skin is super sensitive and my facial hair grows faster than a blackberry bramble. I don't have a lumberjack beard like I used to, but now I just maintain using the same Wahl trimmer that we use for everything. Way easier to maintain the "REI Jesus" style with a trimmer than a blade.
