    MRE recommendations

Hey, do any of you guys stock MRE’s? What are some brands and online stores you recommend? Also the taste and quality varies a lot from dish to dish from what I’m seeing. I’ve seen some YT reviews and read some of the online articles that rank the best MRE’s. Such as this one:

12 Of The Best And Worst MREs, Ranked:

Do you guys have any recommendations? We’ve never bought MRE’s before, and we wanted to stockpile a 2-3 month food supply (at least). And it seems like the variety packs are not the best way to go? I would rather pick packs that have the same dish if possible, (if the dish is generally regarded as being better.) And then just buy different flavors/meals that way.

    Kind regards,

    Max

Also the surplus Case A & B’s are going for around $350 for the two cases / 24 meals on amazon? That seems insane. I’m strongly considering canned goods or other alternatives like the Starkist Tuna MRE’s

MRE are good for traveling. ( bug out bag ) I wouldn’t want to eat them all the time.

If your looking for long term food storage supplies I recommend https://mypatriotsupply.com

Aside from there annoying email list they have a nice selection for long term food storage and they come packaged nicely and don’t taste bad. I keep a substantial amount on hand Just in case. I rotate it out as it gets close to its expiration date.

      Give then your spam email.

While your at it check out: https://www.bigberkeywaterfilters.com
      (worth its weight in gold)

Invest in a good Still. Alcohol can be used for tons of things and it’s a great Barter tool.

Silver is also very useful as well. You can make antiseptics with it with distilled water 9V batteries and a mason jar.

A good multi cal survival break down rifle are great for the bug out bag. I have one that the chambers are interchangeable it will shoot all the common caliber and fits in a large back pack. There are a bunch of great websites with a wealth of info depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go into preparation.

I’m working more on self sufficiency I’m doing a massive garden this year and getting Chickens and Rabbits. Started some fruit trees from seeds hopefully I can get those going it’s my fist attempt from seeds.

Oh and ammo you can have all the gold and food in the world but if you can’t protect it what good is it. It’s easily divisible and a great barter tool and has only gone up in value. It’s a great investment tool and can produce and protect food if need be.

There is a ton of Hype around prepping don’t buy into it I don’t. But having the tools an knowledge to be self sufficient is never a bad thing.

Chuck E Ducky Thanks for all the info, bud. I really appreciate it. Great post, and great tips. I will definitely look into those food prep companies. I’ve already started by getting Spanish wild caught canned seafood, Starkist Tuna packets that come pre packaged with condiments. And I already have a lot of nuts since we eat those generally anyway, like peanuts and almonds, but I’m buying more in bulk. I just ordered around 50 cans in total and 24 of the Starkist tuna packets, plus almonds, and Kind bars etc. so that should hold me over till I look into the food prep companies and other MRE’s.

I definitely need water filters. I do have alcohol and distilled vinegar but I could buy more. On the firearm front, I am golden. I have high end AR’s, thousands of M193 Malaysian surplus rounds, an 870 Remmy 12 gauge with hundreds of shells (both 00 Buckshot and Birdshot), 9mm and 10mm pistols also with plenty of ammunition.

That silver sterilizing tip is out of this world though. That’s really cool

You run tap water through those Berkley filters? The tap water in my area is horrible. I’m not sure any semi-commerical filter can fix it

When I get home I will get the title for you it’s great info to have on hand. May not always have google and YouTube to rely on.

I occasionally buy MREs for my kids, if we go on a side by side outing they love the novelty of eating them, or camping we will make a night where we eat them.

I buy mine as singles from an army surplus store. I don't know brand but they seem to be identical to the
ones issued to me in the military. I get mine from Maine Military Supply. I think you can buy them online, but I doubt their prices are competitive compared to some online sources.

When I was in the military I would intentionally pick the lower calorie main dish meals and vegetarian meals. My theory is to make up for the lack of calories in the main dish they would put candy in them. I would then trade the candy for another good main dish. When everyone is exhausted and miserable they will happily trade a chicken Alfredo for pack of Skittles!

7 Meat Preservation Methods For Preppers [Without Refrigeration]

              https://telsonsurvival.com/defense/h...-refrigeration

              ————

I found this article insightful . Other than freeze dried, are there any other types of meats I can buy that are ready for long-term(ish) storage (without refrigeration)? I was also looking into Dry Cured Salami, it doesn’t need to be refrigerated (derp)

“Examples of Dry Cured Salamis are Genoa, Sopressata, Felino, Napoli and Finocchiona. These have been dried to a point of preservation.”

And for the freeze dried chicken, I was reading some of the reviews on Amazon for Nutrismart and Blue Mountain but the reviewers say the quality has gone down and now there’s a lot more powder vs. diced meat cubes. Is My Patriot better quality?

Pemmican? My survival strategy is to stock up on guns and ammo and just take supplies from the better prepared. Canada doesn't have a gun culture so I have an edge my neighbour does huge Costco runs and is vocally anti-gun that will be my first stop.

With the Covid shortages there was violence when people couldn't get their preferred brand of shit tickets. God help us if we ever saw a real crisis Russia wouldn't even have to invade they'd just have to find a way to stop pork chop deliveries to grocery stores and we'd kill each other.

Pemmican. That word hasn't been in my head in a while. We used to joke you add water to a Pemmican Bar overnight and it would expand to a full loaf of bread. That stuff is dense.

Paintslinger16 That's insane. The degeneracy is real.

If society ever breaks down like that, I could see a Wild West style mob rule come into effect where criminals get hung on the spot the nearest tree (or just executed.) Or the medieval practice of staking your enemies outside of citadel walls in order to warn others.

All of the sudden TWD, comes into mind. Zombie apocalypse aside, it probably wouldnt be too different. A bunch of gangs or settlements vying for control of resources, and/or defending each other, and some assholes trying to exert control over everyone else via extortion. I guess numbers and military readiness would be the difference maker in any apocalyptic or similar scenario. But how do you build a big group of like-minded individuals knowing that there are half-wit degenerate sociopaths out there? thats the question. I guess you'd have to take some leaps of faith and thats where the danger comes in.

In the past I have had better experience with MRE Star over actual military MREs. I set up my Bug Out Bag/Earthquake bags with MRE Star for me and the family when we were in Southern California. Now that we have moved to Texas, I have Mountain House and Cup-O-Noodles in the pantry for Just In case. I have been looking at XMRE as I understand they have a longer shelf-life on average compared to most of the MREs out there.

I would love to hear from the wisdom of the MCB community.
