    I think you win.
Before that, in the 00's, I would take home any free lawnmower, snowblower, atv, gokart, that I would see left on the side of the road.
There is a certain enjoyment in taking a broken gas-powered device.... and get it back to running.

My wife did not appreciate the hobby, and said we looked like "Beirut", which is an old reference for you young kids.
Eventually, my wife said that they can not be visible from the street, and I ended up having to built a couple of sheds to store all of them.

My kids were lucky though. We had lots of dirt bikes, atvs, gokarts, and buggies to play with. All sketchy, and unsafe, but they survived into adulthood.
But, my wife had enough at some point, and we rented a dumpster, and everything "not completely working" had to be thrown in. Except for a few riding lawnmowers. I pushed those into the woods. Still there, but the weeds have grown around them so they are part of nature now? Like w sunken ship in a coral reef?

I just have a handful left. My younger kids still use them (I have 7 kids. Its my own personal fiefdom). All free, found on side of road.
EDIT: The space int the middle is where I park my old Jeep. Notice the oil stain! lol

oh man, that WAS me growing up. push mowers, snow blowers, string trimmers, tractors, and anything with a gas engine. Also bicycles and aquariums/supplies. it got outta hand and something clicked in my head. im not sure what or how it happened but something changed and i wanted it all gone.
I gave away almost everything except for my favorite example of each thing.
i still grab stuff off the road side from time to time but i dont keep it. i fix it up and either sell it or give it away; mostly give it away. i cant say i miss the clutter and most of the time, most of the things were not in a usable state anyways. its hard to sit back sometimes and observe the "disposable society" we live in. mowers that only needed a carb cleaning, or a drive belt replacement, electric scooters that just needed batteries, or a crack in a deck that a simple weld would fix. its insane the stuff people throw away. (me included, not trying to ride my high horse here.)
my father taught me "anything built can be fixed" and that expression just kindda stuck with me.

I collect other hobbies. I jump around frequently.
Some options include or have included:
    • a ton of Lego - currently have the Starry Night set in a box that I need to put together as soon as I figure out where to put it.
    • a couple Kill Team armies (Warhammer 40k) - Ork Kommandos, Chaos Marines, Necron. None are fully assembled or painted yet 🙄
    • tools - especially old ones. I love hand planes.
    • a bunch of records - punk, metal, jazz, hip-hop, r&b, house, techno, hardcore, breakcore, old rock, etc. and 2 crates of 78's that I don't know what to do with... I'm probably into 4 digits with the vinyl.
    • even more digital music - I DJ from time to time, in addition to listening and enjoying
    • art - I just buy what I like, no specific artists.
    • esoteric knowledge
    • axe throwing
    • woodworking
    • grey hairs. no matter what I try I keep finding more and more.
    • a small collection of pipes & tobacco, although I don't really use them

I collect hip hop artists autographs, and have been lucky to get most of mine that way from meeting artists at shows where they were opening acts. Many are underground or lesser known artists who were kind enough to take the time to chat with me as well.

My favorites are; Kool G Rap, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz (not the boxer), Eazy Mac, R.A. the Rugged man, Apathy, A-F-R-O, Slaine and my favorite producer C-Lance.

I met Apathy at a show he opened. I asked him about a line he had eating seafood at restaurant my shellfish farm supplies as I was curious if he had eaten food I grew. It turns out he's very into marine biology and had about a million questions to ask about my job. It was really cool to meet someone I grew up listening to and feel like they were genuinely interested in my life.

Chuck D was the speaker at an event I organized in college. Afterwards he invited me and a few other organizers to hang out with him and his posse. We spent a while talking about the 90s underground hip hop for quite some time. I brought up an independently released album from the late 80s that was entirely produced and recorded using a series to tape recorders to sample and overlay beats that id been fruitlessly trying to track down and his eyes lit up. I can honestly go to my grave happy knowing that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist Chuck D said to me "I know a shit ton about hip hop."

Most of my autographs carry stories like that. I've been really pleasantly surprised by how kind and generous with their time most artists I've encountered have been. Oddly enough some of my favorites are the much smaller artists. I met A-F-R-O at one of his first shows, he was genuinely shocked I wanted his autograph, totally screwed it up, and offered to buy me a new poster, I just had him try again and told him it made a better story that way. Reks was pretty similar, I met him after a small set and ended up playing pool with him and meeting his whole family who was at the show.

I'll snag photos of them later and upload if anyone's interested.
