Today, I may have inadvertently made a discovery regarding plastic (Rubbermaid) bins that could shock the storage and disaster preparedness world. While getting some other things out of storage, I observed a bin on a shelf that contained a bunch of my paintball soft goods. As nostalgia swept over me, I opened the bin and shook out one of my favorite jerseys, a DYE 04 core division jersey that I probably wore once a week.
I slipped the jersey over my head expecting memories to whisk me back to a psp powerstance in a dorito in 2007. But to my surprise it fit like a glove, the kind the nurses wear when they are chiding you to drink less beer. I quickly removed the jersey and tried on 3 others the results were the same. These were perfect when I put them in the bin in 2012 or there abouts. I thought about contacting DYE to see if this is a known defect, protected by RMA or warranty. Then I realized, I think it is some interaction with the plastic in the bin, it mixes with the oxygen and affects the fibers of your precious jerseys.
I write this as a cautionary tale. Do not make my mistake. Don't store your jerseys away in bins, they will be too tight the next time you need them.
