    Plastic totes, dangerous?

Today, I may have inadvertently made a discovery regarding plastic (Rubbermaid) bins that could shock the storage and disaster preparedness world. While getting some other things out of storage, I observed a bin on a shelf that contained a bunch of my paintball soft goods. As nostalgia swept over me, I opened the bin and shook out one of my favorite jerseys, a DYE 04 core division jersey that I probably wore once a week.
I slipped the jersey over my head expecting memories to whisk me back to a psp powerstance in a dorito in 2007. But to my surprise it fit like a glove, the kind the nurses wear when they are chiding you to drink less beer. I quickly removed the jersey and tried on 3 others the results were the same. These were perfect when I put them in the bin in 2012 or there abouts. I thought about contacting DYE to see if this is a known defect, protected by RMA or warranty. Then I realized, I think it is some interaction with the plastic in the bin, it mixes with the oxygen and affects the fibers of your precious jerseys.

I write this as a cautionary tale. Do not make my mistake. Don't store your jerseys away in bins, they will be too tight the next time you need them.

I had similar experiences with my old stuff but it only seems tight around the mid section. Not sure why only the belly area of a shirt would shrink.
"but we all have electros and you guys only have pumps, this wont be fair"

      (chuckling quietly) "we know"

ALL of my clothes shrank in storage and my bathroom scale has become inaccurate. its a slow degradation and seems to add weight every year i step on it.

        weird.

Its scientifically proven that the specific gravity of a paintballer increases over time. Also that electrons are attracted to paintballers with positively charged attitudes. And if they visit MCB more equipment is attracted to said paintballer.

I've found that not only do soft goods shrink with neglect, but that storing such things away for too long somehow results in small clones of yourself running around this world. Silver lining, at least they can wear the shrunken clothing you stored away.

well, if you ask Schrodinger, it both does and does not fit.

Try hanging them in a closet indoors. I found the oversized jerseys now fit correctly, after a few years to hang out.

I've found that soaking them in the same pizza and beer that I eat/drink, then stretching them over the storage bin itself for several days, both right-sizes the clothes and also gets them smelling like my natural bodily smell.
