To me, the only difference between a slider and a swing frame is personal preference. My vintage Autocockers get the type of frame they would have come with. The newer get whatever I have available....

Autococker slider frames. What am I missing?

I wish someone would come up with a good GRN slider frame. They may significantly cheaper & I'd buy them for all my cockers. But I also think that manufacturers would be leery of it due to startup/overhead costs. Cockers & their parts don't sell like the newer spoolers do. I agree with the OP- good, used slider frames are outrageously priced. Albeit for reasons, but they're still incredibly unreasonable to me.

In regards to the "shoot faster" thing, I'm mostly taking people's word on it. I played two weekends ago with my Gmek. I was able to hit 9 or 10 bps in a few good strings with only the Bang Switch upgrade in my trigger system. After 20+ years in the game, you just get an ear for it.
One game, after I got shot out early, a team mate was having marker issues, and I was spectating only a few feet from him. So in pure recreational sportsmanship, I offered to let him used my gun instead. He obliged, and was only hitting MAYBE 6bps. He had no form, and probably never shot a mech before in his life.
I think that's where it comes from; those that didn't grow up with mechs/sliders and never learned the skills. Even back in the day, it was likely geared towards newer yet experienced players with some dough in their wallets.

Brokeass_baller I've seen plenty of videos of people really railing on their hinge frames. I know it can be done... But something just doesn't feel right with that long of a soft, squishy trigger.
Which is funny because when I started getting into cockers I started on a hinge frame. But I was like "WTF, this doesn't feel right at all." You'd think I'd eventually get used to it, being my first one.
Which is double funny because I have a thing for the Trilogy. For a hinge I think they feel good, if a tad stiff. Those 1.5 frames seem harder to short stroke too, at least to me.
I dunno. I guess some people are just weird with stuff sometimes.

Modern manufacturing techniques favor large quantities- 'Cocker parts were cheap when a company could make 5,000 or 10,000 parts and expect them to sell. They start getting expensive when you only make 2,000 and half of them don't sell.

I'm remembering the period around 2008 when you could get new-in-package 32 Degrees frames on eBay for $20 shipped. I bought two and I should have bought 200.

Sliders are fun so are swings. Build what looks good and gives you the most happy.
Here are a few sliders.... I think I have one of each manufacture - not all pictured. Obviously the belsalses sliders are all occupied.
my DYE hinge is pretty dang fast, I would rank it fastest for me @1mm pull. I also have a meteor slider at little over 1mm pull that is almost as fast. Lot of that was fine-tuning, 3way oring drag, LPR pressure, trigger return spring weight, and slide plate trigger stops.
