Autococker slider frames. What am I missing?

Prestige! Likely due to milling costs. None of the sliders are mass produced in the way that the old sliders were, so they cost more. Materials are also more expensive.

I'd say availability/demand, you see more slider frames on pump builds and pump cockers are very popular, so slider frames get bought up and the price goes up, your not really gonna find a slider frame sub 75 bucks, but hinge frames are easy to find under 75

If you've got some skill/tools, there were some old cast potmetal slider frames on ebay that need dremel, clean up, drill/tap work done for cheapish

They used to go for 70-80 but others mentioned it, the lower quantities and demand. Plus quality, Benchmark frames are still great.

WGP aluminum frames aren't quite as sought after but aren't that bad. Those still go for less than others.

angry frames are in the 200-400 range from what I've seen. I've got one, but without belsales plate or sear, so mines on the lower end of the spectrum. Personally I think the Siler frames are just as expensive, but much rarer, hardly see them pop up compared to an angry frame.

A brief history.

Pre electro paintball. Single slide triggers were the defacto trigger frame, probably because they were an analog to the 1911 .45 frame

A skilled player with a well tuned trigger could achieve a 7-8 bps rate of fire. Companies raced to hinge based designs that could outpace that number.

Enter the electro pneumatic paintball marker. Faster rate of fire! Planet Eclipse offers the "Eblade" trigger frame. You can now retrofit your autocockers to achieve electronic speed!

Meanwhile back at the ranch, pump and mechanical players gobble up the abandoned slider frames on the secondary market. Supply dries up. Prices rise. A new generation of machinists realize some players are building for comfort and not for speed.

And, some of us fogies never abandoned the old sliders to begin with.

I used to have a large box full of sliders I picked up from people "upgrading" to swing frames during the 2000s for cheap ($30-$50). I should have held on to them longer, I sold most of them off early in the back to pump trend at sub $100 for even CCM frames (used). If I had waited until the last couple years would have been close to just adding a 0 to the end of what I bought them. Never been great at speculating the market of used PB gear.

I've assumed they're part of a healthy investment portfolio... which is why I only have parts to make maybe 2 or 3 cockers, but enough frames to make six.

If a slider frame is too expensive and you're looking for a single trigger option for a pump build, you can use an AGD frame with Sheridan frame parts provided you drill it to replace the grip panel pin for a sear pin.

When I moved houses at the end of 2020, I had one small box of some paintball-related stuff I had hung on to for the last 20 years. Among other things in it was a brand new Benchmark 45 slider frame. At the time, I didn't think I was ever going to get back into paintball again, and my girlfriend kept telling me while I was going through stuff to pack up, "If you haven't looked at in the last year, get rid of it!" So that, along with a brand new Belsales beavertail, a Piranha SB body, and some various other bits and pieces, all went in the mixed metals recycling dumpster at the city's solid waste facility. Boy do I wish now I hadn't done that...

Few people make them today and the vintage stuff is pushing 20 even 30 years old now. It's the same with car parts for classics.

I honestly just like the way sliders feel. That makes it worth it to me. Hinges are maybe 1 or 2bps faster, but sliders are just so nice to shoot. Although, I'm lucky enough to have gotten mine before the recent retro craze. I picked up a Benchmark with stock WGP internals for I think $65 or $70 in 2018. I've upgraded the guts to Nummech Telos and have zero regrets.

I bought a Dye-FreeFlow UL slider for $225 blemmed (but I cannot for the life of me figure out where the blemish is). Came with it's own guts that are very nice.

And then I stick with my old Gmek, instead of the new and trendy Emek, m170r and CS-whatever lines simply because it has such a nice slider on it.

You just have to shoot one to understand.
