Line was crazy, two deep. My wife and I waited 3 minutes, voted 5 minutes. 9/10 would vote again.

Beyond the fact that I'm a chronic procrastinator it just seemed the safer way to go this year.

My wife was able to vote in her first election yesterday (recent citizen, not recently an adult!) and almost got turned away because of some confusion regarding her driver's license (old address). She wasn't gonna have any of that and stood in line for 20 minutes while they made all the requisite calls, and cast her ballot.

What a year to learn about American politics!

The next Canadian election will be interesting for me. My old voting station was in the second tower of the condo building I lived in! Now that I've moved I have no idea where it will be.

Waiting to see what your results are down there and what fallout if any there will be.
Also; "emotional support Canadians"?! say what now?!

I think when the final total of voters is known, you should all be proud. Voter participation seems to be up quite a lot, I look forward to seeing how much. People have fought. bled, and died just for that right. It is important to exercise it.

I share your sentiment it is great the voter participation in the US is up; sadly it is not near enough participation even at ~66%. While this is high for contemporary US I still think it is shamefully low. I know several adults in there 5th and 6th decades who have never voted. I do not understand this, I have missed only one federal election in my adult life and had no control of it I was out to sea on a submarine expecting to be back before the election and we ended up having to cover another boat's deterrent package. We pulled in about 3 weeks after the election (Pres. Clinton's defeat of Pres. Bush). Voting/participating in our government is a responsibility as well as a right in my thinking.

Agreed. All the news organizations last night were talking about the record turnout. That’s something to be proud of.

Oh of course I voted: Voting is exercising the only form of violence acceptable against the government.

I think the rest of America needs to follow Washington's lead on voting. I dropped it in a box, no line. Bing bang boom. Easy.

I do agree that mail in/drop off is convenient. But I definitely enjoyed getting to put my ballot right into the scanner myself, and watch it show as accepted on the screen.

I'm not exactly old, but I like doing it oldschool. Paper, pencil, in person. To me it's kinda like an e-book vs an actual book. There's just something about doing it right there with physical tools, no electronics involved. Adds a sense of... I dunno, completeness? The whole process is rather gratifying IMO.

I agree. It also compels a person to be more measured/deliberate/resolute in their action.

First election I was old enough to vote I was away at college. Absentee/mail in was my only option. I've done it both ways, neither has ever bothered me.

High five to all you voters. As a liberal leaning centrist voting in Texas, I don't often get what I think I want.... but I never miss an opportunity to exercise my right to vote.

I prefer in person voting... when the line is moving. Our county has a great hybrid system where you vote electronically, but still get a paper printout with your ballot choices on it. Ballot drop boxes sound tempting, but our governor only allowed one per county this year.

I liked the ballot format too, seeing the printout before feeding it in. Great method. (Dallas county, for me.) I never trust just software, so it makes me feel better to both have the software counting, but also the paper record in case of a crash.
