Sadly nothing is fool proof, I am a fan of in person with electronic voting and receipt but I have no particular issue with in person paper ballot. In too many elections absentee ballots never get counted mainly because they will not make a difference in the outcome volume of ballots vs. votes to change the outcome. That has always bothered me, if I vote no matter the outcome I want my vote counted.

My 88 year old Mom got screwed, she has voted in every election but this year her absentee ballot did not make it to her until Nov 4th but tracking shows it was mailed to her Oct 5th so thank you USPS for making my Mom very upset with the whole thing. This is one of the reasons I was against this Mail In Voting in general I was worried about the "system" being over taxed and things like this happening.

I am glad Oregon has it worked out but it has had 20 years to do so and not under "last minute" stress as most states had to deal with in this election. This should have been handled better and really was an unnecessary complication for this election year. Georgia where my mother is a resident really was unprepared for this but in my Mom's case they did their job to ensure she had a ballot and was sent to her with a reasonable amount of time for her to vote and get it sent back to GA for counting. Where this particular case broke down is in the logistics; USPS who had promised they had the capacity did not do the job. You look at the statistics so far and they are claiming mid to high 90% success but with a system so large that is a huge number of people who do not get to be counted. This was a single point failure issue. Should my Mom thrown the flag sooner and tried to figure this out before Nov 4th? Sure she should have I wish I had known about it sooner instead of my sister telling us after the fact. There might have been something reactively that could have been done but that still does not absolve the system for letting my Mom and others like her down.

Not the system. Dejoy. Designed intentional failure.
She could have still gone and voted in person as well. A lot of people did. I'm still, and will remain, a huge proponent of vote by mail. There's absolutely no reason to go wait in line. There's no reason to have to take a day off, or use a lunch hour, or be too busy and not vote at all because you don't have time. There's no reason to allow politicians to play games with closing polling places or limiting drop boxes to one per county. There's no reason to listen to disingenuous "arguments" about vote by mail being rampantly fraudulent. There's no reason to use electronic voting machines that don't give a paper trail. Or pick the wrong candidate when you press the screen. No need for hanging chads. None. Voting is the most fundamental of America rights, any artificial impediments that get in the way of the American people exercising their franchise are not justified.
I'm glad your mom got to vote and have her voice heard. Hopefully it'll go smoother in 2022.

She [my Mom] could not vote in person. This is not a mail in ballot issue but an absentee ballot issue, they are not the same. My Mom just recently moved to NH and has been unable to obtain residency yet and by GA residency standards she is still a GA resident and so applied for an absentee ballot. My Mom did not get to vote and did not have her voice heard.
