It's also going to seem wierd to me if they keep the name James Bond. I'm cool with a Female 007 as long as they make a good movie out of it.Originally posted by MAr "... Nish deleted it..."

It doesn't bother me that a woman got the role; if she is the best fit for the story then great and I hope she blows it out of the water. What bothers me is shoehorning a someone into a role to try and be PC, or diverse, or appeal to a certain demographic just because. The Wonder Woman / Ghostbusters analogy pretty much sums it up. Make a good movie and people will enjoy it regardless of who is the lead. Make a crap movie and well...

I do not have any particular aversion to a female 007 as long as it is not being just done to kowtow to some sense of PC or Wokeness. If a compelling story is written and well acted in the spirit of preceding 007 stories both written and movie scripted I see no problem. 007 is a position that requires a certain set/combination of skills so why couldn't it be a female? My fear is this motive around a female 007 has nothing to perpetuating the series and opening it up to new story lines but instead just an attempt to kowtow to wokeness so will be more like the latest Ghostbusters or Ocean's 8.

I love a good woman protagonist. The problem is that, yes, they kind of shoehorn that in there far too often. Like they wrote it specifically for a man, then went back, edited awkwardly, and do a lot within the movie to point at it and say "Look! Woman!"
And the Bond movies have always kind of been a male power fantasy. Like, probably more than occasionally-offensively so. The women are often just props. And keeping that way with a woman in the lead role would be terribly problematic and would be a huge blow to the franchise.
I'd love to see them pull this off. Even if it's a huge tone shift. But casting a woman as 007 to fill the spot while Bond himself is in exile sounds to me like they're just setting her up to showcase him, and as another "find the man to fix things" plot.
Just write an actual good female part. That's a writer/producer problem, not a feminine problem.
Plus, they're still not addressing the theory that James Bond is the code name given to any 007 (which may be for the best; 'Jane Bond' would sound infuriatingly forced), but they haven't denied it... which, leaving the Bond name unretired while he's exiled just screams to me that the movie is just an aside, between actual Bond movies, and her only purpose is to get James back in the scene. Which would be clumsy writing in any case, and plain disastrous for a movie marketing itself as progressive.

The specific theory that James Bond isn't one guy, it's the code name given to or reserved for anyone currently holding the 007 designation.
Having an Agent 007 and a separate James Bond would either suggest that the current 007 is a temporary appointment or deny that theory.
It explained why they so easily switch actors without noting a plastic surgeon on staff, why James Bond has been continuously active without all the movies being set within a much smaller time span and without needing a walker, and would clear cover for someone moving up the promotion ladder.
Aside from, you know, just hand-waving it all for the sake of the movies.

The franchise will lose some fans as a result, even if it turns out to be a good movie. If it's a bad movie, the woke crowd is going to say that anyone who dislikes it is a racist or has a toxic masculinity problem. Either way, some fans will walk away.
If she is to become the main protagonist (not a problem for me), her designation should, imho, be 008, just as Sean Bean was 006 in Goldeneye (best of all of 'em, imho).
I think the franchise would have more success with that, or doing an offshoot with crossovers (call it OHMSS, or something). No change has to become a problem for anybody, if it's done right.
On the surface, it looks like a woke thing, though.

reminds me of a line from another movie.
Tropic Thunder - Robert Downey Jr. said it. "you never go full retard". That's what happened here.LINK TO FEEDBACK:
