I agree with others, I think that is intended to allow the app to view and download files. Seems weird to have that as a permission request though, maybe it is a Android label? I'd just call and ask what it is they actually want to do. If they want to use google drive to share files with you just make another google drive to use.

Sounds like you got phished with a spoofed app. Or your potential future boss is trying to cover his ass.

If you put in any PII (address, SSN, DOB) I'd consider doing a credit freeze for a while.
