Very good odds of that. Like I said its a beat up of version of my vehicle. Why the hell would you steal plates around the corner. This person is not very smart. I'm going to leave them a little note saying I did not report it and talk to me directly if they need help in the future.

I have been swapping out the screws on my plate for something like an allen head for a while. It doesn't have to be theft proof, just harder to steal than the one on the car parked next to mine.

Electric fence generator + discrete wire to the plate and puddle of water under the car
you should ear them if they try again

Not sure if the tire will isolate enough the circuit but sound like fun

Monkeys, of all varieties have no chance at practicing noise discipline what-so-ever. So "Tactical" is out of the question. However, the new-aged Tacti-cool is still a very viable option. Plate hangers, Mechanics gloves, Stupid bright flashlight, digi-cam diapers (who wants monkey shit in their trunk?) and any and all assortments of gadgets could be outfitted to him.

Plates get stolen here for drive off theft...shop lifting petrol theft at the pump etc...I ended up fitting tamper proof screws...I would assume they are available at any car parts store

Red Locktite works great. If you get regular bolts you can set them so they spin. Watch them turn and turn and turn and turn...

The screws can often be ripped right out by a sufficiently motivated thief

I'm hoping they wont try to take them again, but to be proactive I'm looking for tamper proof solutions for license plate mounting. My only idea is security bit screws. A torx type bit with a post in the middle. I'm hoping I can find one with the right threads. But I'm looking for other ideas.
Security bit screws are a solid choice, but you might also look into one-way license plate screws. They tighten normally but can’t be easily removed without a special tool. Another option is using locking fasteners designed for plates, which require a unique key to remove.

Okay, hear me out… now that I’ve got my post masturbatory clarity, I think I’ve got the answer.

Step 1: Steal someone else’s plates & put them on your car. I would recommend the biggest and/or scariest person you know… or a cop.

Step 2: Install the newly stolen plates on your car.

Step 3: Leave your car somewhere obvious for the original thief to steal again.

Step 4: Reinstall your actual plates.

Step 5: Conveniently mention to your victim that you think you’ve found their plates.

(Optional) Step 6: Drive by as thief is getting arrested and/or beat up. Roll down your window and yell, “got ‘emmm”! ensuring the thief sees you and your real plates right where they’re supposed to be.

                            Best of luck.
