    Humidors

I’m sure there are a few other enjoyers of cigars here. Gotta a question, what do you use as a humidor? I have a latching Tupperware and a “nice” wooden one. The wood one refuses to maintain humidity no matter how many times I’ve seasoned it. The Tupperware latches look to be wearing out. So I am looking for a new humidor to replace them both, preferably 50-75 cigar capacity and honestly would prefer something air tight, maybe pelican style case?

what do you all use for your collections?

Are you using a sponge humidifier with distilled water? Those never worked well for me.

I would recommend using Xikar cristal humidifier and propylene glycol

refill it couple of time and will stay perfect for a long time after

Xikar is one of the best brand and 1 bottle of Propylene glycol will last a long time.
You should ne able to find those where you buy your cigar

I’ve been running boveda packs since I started keeping cigars in humidors a few years ago. My wood box has a large glass panel and from ive read they are notoriously difficult to maintain humidity levels. It doesn’t help I get really dry air during the winter.

I can definitely relate to your struggle with humidity levels in a wooden box with a glass panel. I’ve also heard that they’re tough to maintain, especially during the winter when the air is dry. Boveda packs are a great choice, but sometimes it feels like we’re always battling the elements! Have you tried using a digital hygrometer to monitor the humidity more accurately? It might help pinpoint the issue.

You are speaking my language! I have probably 200 or more cigars in my humidor right now and I use the 65% boveda packs and those will last a year or two for me.

Now I ended up buying a coolerdor, but don't plug it in as its in my basement.

Overkill for what you might want right now, but if you ever step up to cases you will need it.

Anything air tight will work best. The fancy boxes just don't last long term as moisture seeps out. If you pay real good money for a wooden one and you do the lid drop test on it, you can find them, but I gave up.
      * lid drop test is to open it and let the lid fall back down. If it slams down with a thud, too much air easily escapes. If it comes down with a soft close, its pretty air tight.

So for you, a larger pelican or any water right box with boveda packs.

Or go big and get that coolerdor!

You gave good advice! I would definitely consider the Pelican Box. Your "lead drop test" tip is very useful. And the idea of CoolerDoor must be tried one day.

igloo cooler from wal mart for the win. seals well and maintains humidity wonderfully.

i use the proprylene glycol with the green sponge and it seems to work well enough for me. the sponge goes the entire length of the box though. i havent had a good smoke in awhile. its usually when im mowing the lawn to keep the bugs away.
i used to have a smoke when i was working on the car but it would inevitably get covered in rust and oil, would fall off whatever i rested it down on, roll along the driveway, and the smoke was always in my face. i started to realize how much it was slowing me down.

funny story, when i was growing up, my father would smoke cigars. He smoked the Arturo Fuente curly heads. As i became an adult, i would indulge in a cigar every so often and started to form opinions on what i like and dodnt like. One of my favorites is the 858. Nothing crazy but a few steps up from what my father smoked.
Now that i have kids of my own, i find myself picking some generic JR house offerings. Not all that great but allot less expensive. its whatever; i dont NEED to smoke a cigar and i really shouldnt be smoking either. id rather spend the $ on the kids; putting gas in the boat and going out as a family. Things like that.
One day my father and i were at the range talking about cigars. Turns out he really likes the 858 too. I asked why he didnt buy then instead of the curly heads (he was more than able to afford them). He explanation: "it dosent matter, id rather spend the $ on you guys. And besides, i really shouldnt be smoking anyways..."
the older i get, the more i realize the "sacrifices" that parents make. (its the same reason i wear invicta watches and my 7yo has prescription eye glasses.)
