    Darts

So I started playing a little about 2 years ago. Started to get interested in getting better recently and started practicing a bit. My local pub plays a variety of games and of course cricket is popular. I do pretty well with local competition but now that I'm branching out, I'm finding that my entire base of competitive play has almost completely neglected doubles work.

We rarely play 501 as there is always more than 2 players per game. All of my practice has been rooted in trebles and scoring. Now it feels like I'm starting over trying to get consistent hitting doubles. I've been questioning my grip as hitting singular doubles requires much less consistent rhythm than scoring. Ie moving to more of a front grip and actually gripping part of the point rather than gripping the dart closer to its balance point. This has opened up my groups a bit but I'm hitting more doubles and missing more widely when I do miss. I guess only the hits count and I should practice more but I'm curious if this has ever occurred with anyone else.

No. I always hold by the ferrule. Darts is all hand/eye co-ordination. My group started in a "C" League, but were moved into "AA" within a few weeks. We all practiced together, had boards at home and all played constantly. 501/701/901 were the mainstay games, Cricket is for kids.

Safest thing in the room is the board when I play.

On a tangentially related topic, I recently discovered that my Grandmother has a pre-ban Jarts kit in the garage

So I just had to look up both ferrule and Jdarts. Lawn darts I'm good with, aside from being freaking lethal if you gave a set to kids. Is the ferrule referring to the barrel in general or the balance point of the dart? I was more referring to shifting my grip forward more than normal. This is first real experimentation with a front grip that more pulls the dart. I'm finding my throw is lacking as I stretch to the very top and bottom of the board with my old middle grip. Ie hitting the double 5,20,1 on top and the 19,3,17 on bottom with any regularity has been problematic with a center grip.
