    Re-watched Interstellar

Hi y'all, bit of a cinephile. Gave Christopher Nolan's 2014 sci-fi film a re-watch. Probably my 4th time, I also saw it in theaters. My wife's first so I took an edible and would pause to explain some of the scientific theories that they use as plot devices in English because of the multiple timelines it can be a bit confusing on a first watch.

I know the multiverse stuff has become a bit of a trope thanks to the Marvel studios but this movie is one of the best along with intersecting timelines. I may be as soon bold to compare it to Kubrick's 1968 film 2001: a Space Odyssey. Honestly near perfect movie, definitely a modern classic. 9.7/10

I must admit a little bias because with a daughter on the way the sacrifice of Matthew McConaughey's character got me hard in the feels just imagining leaving all your loved ones behind to venture into the great unknown for the last hope of the human race.

    Ground control to Major Tom...

I just recently watched this and tbh I was lost, when he went into the worm hole and shit got weird that's where they lost me I had no clue what was going on, I understand he was sending messages and all that but it will really throw you for a loop and have you scratching your head

I've tried it twice and having a hard time deciding if I liked it our not. I am typically not a big fan of Time Paradox storylines because too often it is a troupe for bad writing to mask inconsistencies but at least here they were trying to make it make sense just too much brain power needed to follow. I watch movies mostly for escapism I get enough mental exercise during my regular day to day.

If you're not loosely familiar with some of the scientific theories especially relativity I can really see you getting lost. I think they do a decent job explaining some of them throughout. Definitely not a scroll on your phone movie.

My wife and I watched it on IMAX when they did the re-release. It's an amazing movie, even though I've seen it before. It really hit different in IMAX. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it.

      Another absolute classic.

I feel like I've been making reference to Gattaca, monthly, since it's release.

Ethan Hawk and Uma Thurman had a kid, apparently. He's one of "The Boys," if anyone is watching that show.

Interstellar is a good movie. Comparing this to 2001 isn't bold at all. In many ways it's better as this movie actually has a plot.

I kind of like the open-endedness of it. In my mind Kubrick can do no wrong. Dr. Strangelove: or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb is probably my second favorite movie only to the Good, the bad, and the ugly

I agree. Anyone who claims to understand 2001 is either lying or using context provided by the sequel or source material. The whole point of the movie was for Kubrick to swing his big d*ck around and yell "Look what I can do". The story isn't important to enjoy it at all. It's still very impressive today but I can't imagine how it must have seemed to audiences in '68. I highly recommend seeing it on the big screen.

Well said, I tend to agree!

Love the David Bowie call out, too. May Ziggy Stardust live forever.

I've been meaning to rewatch it, haven't yet, though.

I love they way they used the black hole as a way to jump off and do some pretty creative fusion of art and science.

I want to say more about this particular part, and I know it's an old movie, but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone.

Are we going down the **spoiler warning** rabbit hole, or would that just derail this thread?

Cause, I will vamp haaaaarrrrd on this movie if allowed.

I thought it was good .
        and a cool fact:
Nolan wanted a real cornfield for a bunch of the scenes, so he planted one and sold all the corn for profit after the movie wrapped up.

        allegedly.

Primer is awesome, especially considerig they did it on a $7000 budget!

Coherence is great also, and on a $50,000 budget non the less.

I loved how Interstellar used a real Pipe Organ for most of its soundtrack. Recorded at the Knights Templar church in London.
There is a ton of religious symbolism in the movie, by design. Very spiritual.

and while Chris Nolan gets most of the credit, the original screenplay was largely created by an actual theoretical physicists Kip Thorne. Much of the crazy science is based on real science

Still kicking myself that I missed the re-release of Interstellar. Well maybe I'll catch it on the 20th anniversary re-re-release.
Primer is also up there on my list of time travel/mind-warping movies. I agreed whole-heartedly with one critic's review that said "If someone watches 'Primer' once & tells you they understand it, they're either a genius or a liar."
        I'll have to watch 'Coherence'

On a somewhat unrelated note: I re-watched Sphere (1998) with Samuel L Jackson, Sharon Stone, & Dustin Hoffman. What a great film. I’m inclined to read the book. It’s supposedly a great read.
