I’m thinking about getting a couple reliable loaner pump guns to loan out to people to play in my backyard. Preferably ones that will run 12 grams. What would yall recommend? Cheap and reliable makes me think something old and Nelson design, or maybe pgp, but stock class may be too niche and fiddly for this group of newbies

Cheap pump
Sl68 II (cheap, but non standard barrel and need adaptor for standard hopper)
trracer (cheap and easy to find, but you will have rollout unless you use Docmachine sizer or SSC trracer to cocker sizer and find or machine pump handle to a 1" ID hole)
Semi
Spyder, spyder clone or any STBB
Super cheap easy to find and most of them should run on co2 easily💀Team Ragnastock💀

If you want to use 12g I would suggest something Nelson-based for simplicity/efficiency's sake. The Trracer/Maverick/Hammer line would be a good option, just make sure you find a marker that has adjustable velocity or it will turn into a springing headache. If you could find a cheap Phantom or two that would be great, but if you're going for budget backup pumps I think your best bet would be one of the aforementioned Nelsons.💀 PK x Ragnastock 💀

I just realized that if I’m worried about fiddly, 12 grams are worse than 10 round tubes, so I would probably run everything on compressed air…
-
Wilfortina I would say that would likely be easier. If you have access to HPA it makes things much more streamlined. Be warned that to hit field velocity some markers will need 850+psi on HPA
-
Oh also spyder pumps might be a good option if I run them on compressed air. Anyone have experience/comparing those to something like a trracer? These loaners would be used for my kids as well as they get bigger. My Minimag setup is pretty large and heavy for my 10 year old

You can't go wrong with a Phantom and you can set it up for whatever you want. If you gonna run HPA you can probably find some Azodins KP, KPC, or KP3 on the cheap. I've been running a KP3 for years and it does everything you want it to. The ano tends to be trash, other than that don't adjust the reg under pressure and you're good to go

Moodog runs a small loaner fleet of Nelsons (mostly bushmasters) on 12gs, so we can go play anywhere. It's awesome. He charges a nominal fee for paint and air... I think he'll make back the investment on the fleet in only five or six more years
I bring Phantoms to loan out, because that's what I have. I swap in a RF body for the new guys.
I have a KPC that a newbie would like but it's just doesn't do it for me; I tried it unregged on a 12g and would not recommend that setup! But the guys running them on HPA seem satisfied.
We get a ton of people who want to play but don't want to invest, and they have a great time. Stock class is the best class. Great idea to bolster the pump game.Feedback

Any basic sniper with a regulator is going to be not only noob friendly but get you at least 25-30 good shots on a 12 gram plus you can use a small hopper

It’s pretty much impossible to beat the Trracer in this area. We’re talking like 1/3 to 1/4 the price of a freaked sniper thats probably got no auto trigger. There’s no comparison value-wise.
Totally stock non-effed up Trracers are best. The pump stroke is better than Phantom. The gun never needs parts. It was a deal 35 years ago and still is. They are all right feed and the feed doubles as a cram and jam. If nobody screwed with the springs they run CO2 flawlessly.
A $0.01 piece of tape, preferably three narrow ones evenly spaced, is all you need to stop rollouts. A single roll of electrical tap will stop rollouts in HUNDREDS of Trracers. You don’t need a sizer. People just buy that stuff…because they want to, apparently. It’s not even better at the job. Tape absolutely works better that freaks and sizers on modern paint. I guess they like spending money on stuff. It’s never been explained to me. If anyone has any info on that please reply via PM or Quote rather than comment. I’d love to understand you more.

Would trracers be better than a couple PGPs, then? I’m more familiar with Nelsons than PGP action

Personally, I would say yes. They are lighter and will likely be more efficient in the event you use 12 grams. You also have the hopper option whereas a PGP does not (PMI/Sheridan direct feed models will though). And IIRC they are less expensive to acquire.
This may be heresy here, but IMO brass is an acquired taste. If I were acquiring loaner pumps I'd go with Trracers or cheap snipers.

Easier to work on too. You can run hoppers or just jam a 10rd tube straight in the feed
-
cheapguitarscheapthrills A 10rd tube straight in the feed is a GREAT way to run it. If I want to run with next to nothing that's how I do it.

Get stuff you like if you're loaning them out. Then when they buy their own, you're not stuck with stuff you dont like.
And 12g arent that complicated, it actually slows down the shooting and makes the game more about movement, and makes you responsible for ammo and gas management. Plus you can play all day with a pack of 12ies. If you have a tank, once its empty, thats it. Of course you can invest in a scuba tank and or a high pressure air pump, but the initial cost to get either setup can be steep.
