I probably have 12-25 pairs of shoes. I wear flip flops the most, running shoes where I have them in stages. Walking shoes when worn out, and three pairs rotating at different stages. Work boots, dress shoes, water shoes, etc. they are a tool and each has a different use. I but sanuk sandles and brooks running shoes, same model if possible. Could be 4 -5 overall but situations and such.

I thrift or buy used pretty much everything I own textile wise.

Black,Tan, and Grey combat boots for varying milsim factions.
1 really solid pair of sneakers for work. (I do retail)
2 pairs of dope vans for when I wanna feel like a kid again.
        lightweight merrel runners
        Flip flops
A pair of crocs, the insulated ones, best house slipper ever.

        and..

like 6 pairs of cleats because I haven't found one that supports right.

I have plenty, thanks to a time when I couldn't find any when I needed them and started buying them when I saw them on clearance or sale.

          What I use:
A pair of really comfortable pull-on running shoes. Whenever I leave the house.
Work shoes. Pull-on, liquid resistant. Very important traits.
Slides. For around the apartment. Laminate floors aren't nice on bare feet.

          Less common, I have:
Sandals. Velcro. For around the neighborhood because I'm lazy.
Boots. Ratty and old. Use them for working on the car or helping move stuff and whatnot.
Trail runners. Mostly use them fishing. Nothing gets better grip on the local sand and loose rock.
Several pairs of Chucks and Vans. See initial explanation above.

I never thought about how many I have until now.

                Work sneakers
                Outside of work sneakers/trail runners
Old pair of above shoes for yard work and paintball
                flip flops
Croc type things, mainly worn while bringing dogs outside
low cut LL Bean slip on duck boot for bringing dogs out in the rain
Hiking boots for wearing in snow, these are due to be replaced soon
                Keen snadals
and I got a pair of boat shoes for a vacation that we just went on

I run into a problem where my shoes wear out to the point where they don’t serve their purpose any more, but still can serve a purpose so they are replaced by not discarded.

I get new work boots yearly from my company, they are meant to last a long time and I mostly work in an office so I have like 6 pairs that are still fine but no one else would want them.

Running shoes do wear out for the purpose of running after 3-400 miles, but still look fine so they become casual day-to-day shoes, then street hockey shoes, and end their life as “could be used at camp” shoes. I have 3 pairs in their terminal phase now.

16 total pairs of footwear, from sandals to boots. I don't wear them all regularly, and some can honestly be tossed or donated.

Alternate between 3 pairs of sneakers for every-day work & life.
Alternate between 3 pairs of sandals/slides (2 for around the house, 1 for travel).
2 pairs of paintball shoes (1 pair is falling apart, not sure why i still have them).
1 pair of boots that are only worn for, at most, 1 week a year (if it snows).
                  The rest collect dust.

2x different style generic trail runners I got from aliexpress
                    Water shoes
                    Hiking/playing boots

                        good dailies
                        ratty dailies (yard work)
safety toe insulated rubbers (for rain & winter)
safety toe work boots (general work and motorcycle)
                        hikers (paintball or motorcycle)
2nd hikers (slip-on for taking dog out, wife uses them too)
                        Sorel caribou boots (winter)
two pair dress (black & brown)
                        Crocs (indoor/house shoe)
                        baseball cleats (paintball)
a pair of cross trainers I can get rid of

So 12. That's about 7 more than what I want, but most of them have good use cases.

I’ve probably got at least 10 pairs of tennis shoes. I never go shopping for shoes but if I’m out & run across a nice name brand pair on sale/clearance I’ll probably grab them. When i say sale i mean i NEVER pay more than $25.00. I do have a pair of Hokas but they were a gift. I’d never spend $100.00 + on shoes myself.
