Yesterday, had a service call come in from another branch that had no techs avaiable. Even their branch manager was out on a call. Their customer's production was down and needed to be running ASAP. I arrived on site, met with the other branch's salesman, and got down to business. Even though it was a system I haven't seen before, I had the customer back up and running in less than an hour. Not only was the customer pleased, the other branch's salesman was super impressed. He even called my supervisor and told him "your guy really knows what he's doing". Feels good man.

Was training some guys on an installation procedure today, had my ipad out for reference. Steady rain all day so the area around the truck was flooded.
Customer accidentally knocks my ipad off the truck into a 6" puddle, completely submerged. Mortified.

Today went well. At a customer site doing a live cut over of a customer's building automation system. My employer promised 0 shutdown for the customer production. So we have to shoehorn our components into already full cabinets. Then I cut them over point by point. We got 4 clean room air handling units moved today with out incident. Which is seriously a great day.
Though one of those plc racks is on 7.5" standoff above the old system. Tomorrow I need to try to demo their plcs out. Then move ours down to the back plane.
Beats getting yelled at my boss for not having a paper calendar at my work station back at the shop... have I told you Im looking g for a new job? 😅Comment

That sounds stressful. Mounting new din rail inside an existing cabinet while the machine is active... I am surprised the cabinet was deep enough for that large of a standoff and have components on the standoff. Not to mention switching it over without downtime... (i am making assumptions on what the cabinet looks inside). -
It's not deep enough, many of them aren't, this particular case was especially terrible because I typically have room to just mount my plc near the old one. This one, I only installed the head unit months ago so we could get comms up. Now that it's cut over, I can't shut the door until it's complete. And there is literally NO backplane available.. best part is the controllers are not removed yet because there is a few demod points I've yet to remove, but we are waiting for 100% confirmation that these points are in fact demo'd before I can pull power to the old units.

Here is that panel StaticShocked this is pre cut over. Old system is 24vac isolated. New system is 25vdc grounded comm. So the last terminals are for the AC only valves we are also controlling. Its a nightmare. I like my work to look nice,and in some cases I cant.

And the Voltage to Pressure transducers are often controlling valves that we can't lock out. They are often not mounted and or tangled into wiring before I open these cabinets. These especially suck because I can't drop line pressure, so I'm lucky to even get them mounted by the end of it.
Annnd there are hundreds of remote cabinets I'm tasked to cut over in the nextthree years. -
You are an electrical integration saint. Getting all of that up and running outside, then later transplanting it inside while keeping everything running, is practically heart replacement surgery. The finished cabinet looks great. -
It never ceases to amaze me how much smaller the newer replacement components are compared to the originals they are replacing.

My work disallows talking on cell phones, texting, or reading texts while walking on the facility. Saw a security guard on his phone walking and talking while attempting to follow a person who was also walking and talking. I laughed literally out loud and pointed this out to both of the people clearly violating quite possibly the dumbest rule I have ever seen enforced. I later get called into my bosses office and asked what I thought was so funny about this rule. I asked is this company wide or just site specific for my site. Its company wide. I asked why this rule is in place and its because people are incapable of being aware of their surroundings while being distracted. I tell her yeah sure, message loud and clear. I instantly get a call from a customer my division supports and tell them I cant talk right now, I cannot use the phone and walk, decide to put it on speaker phone so my boss can hear the conversation and was blessed with the customer asking what asshole comes up with stupid rules like that and that someone better tell the pilots that they cant be distracted from their surroundings so therefore cant use any of their portable devices while flying planes. My boss shook her head and smiled while I walked away talking to the customer on speaker phone. My company is literally trying to regulate stupidity. God I hate OSHA, safety, or any other entity that wants to save the world one Darwin recipient at a time.Do hard things for fun. Being soft is for sissies. My brother used to work in a rare earth materials facility that would regularly start chemical fires, get the fire department called, and not tell anyone that they were chemical fires. So firefighters would be walking around the factory floor huffing lithium fumes totally unaware.
So yeah, your company rule sounds dumb as hell, but there is a time and place for OSHA to step in.
