a persistent and annoying, but not work stopping, gremlin with 1 server up and went away. Something that usually took several attempts to get to work is now just working . . . and I pointed that out to someone else . . . and now I am wondering where the fuck the damn gremlin went and what sort of new mayhem will it be causing
What happened at work today?

Two days ago: found a Milwaukee radio in a dumpster during an inspection.
Yesterday: found a free electric chainsaw by the curb.Comment

Got home, made dinner, wrapped up.
Work phone rings.
Customer is out of propane and I'm on call
Customer is a 2 hour drive away
So, 5 hours of overtime on a Friday night and I didn't get back until 12:30. Exactly what I wanted to do

We've bene doing lots of overtime at work too. We had contractors the last week who were working late and we had to sick around with them. Today is the last day of it.
Lots of money was made at my location in the last 10 days. I think one of the guys got close to 110 hours.
We also broke a torque gun, and that's going to set things back on regular maintenance until we can get a loaner sent to us and have our repaired.
In home news, my pool skimmer protector leaked, and I had a ball valve freeze and break. I decided i'm going to do all PVC pipes this year, because i'm sick of buying hoses.Comment

Mounted a couple 600lb roller bearings recently, using hydraulic injection to stretch the inner bore while we slipped it over/up the shaft sleeve into place. Even with the hydraulics applying 8000psi on the whole bore, we had to torque a half dozen jack bolts a few hundred ftlb each to push the bearings on.
Load rating is a touch north of 1.3 million pounds per bearing. Lots of bearing to break up some rocks.Feedback

I've started to type out an answer multiple times but most of them would require details which I can't post.
I work with police who investigate only drugs, murders, gang crime, and the worst of the worst so destroying a hundred kilos of cocaine would be not an uncommon task.
I once had a knock at the door from an investigator who was examining some drugs to determine their type when the baggy got sucked up into the fume hood like arm that is positioned over the exhibit. She was asking for assistance to retrieve them. Facilities maintenance refused to assist as they were concerned about exposure to fentanyl. We ended up fitting a scissor lift through the door to reach up to the fume extraction system which we disassembled. Much like George from that Seinfeld episode, I reached into the blowhole of the whale and retrieved a baggy of white powder.....as well as other drugs from previous accidents where nobody asked for help to get them back.

Good lord, that's chaos. I'm on the legal end of stuff and have been tempted to post but have not. A few months ago have a live microphone incident that derailed the entire matter for several weeks. Was a hell of a day and very stressful few days after until it got back on the rails several weeks later.

A little update on my plc transplant. Its not done done, but I was able to squeeze the pneumatic line enough to cut off the air supply. Cut and jam a plug into said supply. Then transplant the plc and power rails onto seperate rails in the cabinet while all staying live. Since this picture, I printed up some labels, terminal chicklets, and fabricated a blanking plate to cover the many holes in the cabinet door. Due to the wire lengths being longer than needed, it's not the cleanest one I've done.. but considering this was moved after being wired, I was pretty proud of it.1 PhotoComment

20 days into a public hearing, set to resume this week and one of the lawyers who represent one of the accused got promoted to be a judge…. Which means he had to drop
all his case load including this public hearing. So one of the accused now has no lawyer. We are likely derailed until the fall now as a new lawyer needs to bs brought up to speed. This is the second major derailment of the matter….Comment

this was yesterday - but worth relaying it here. Rockstar Games has one of their studios next door to the office I work out of. And there have been some issues with them spilling over into our parking lot, which with the renovations we have going on puts a lot of stress on our staff. I'd been seeing one car as a repeat offender - New Jersey tags in Socal stand out - and today I caught the guy doing it. So I asked him not to, and said why. Thought that would be that, but as he started to drive off he got mouthy at me. We had a delightful exchange of pleasantries then, as I guided him into a parking space in his lot not even 50ft away from where he was trying to park in ours. Younger dude, still wanted to mouth off as he walked away. I told him to go play test some more games they'll never release. A couple of my coworkers saw the whole thing and were laughing their asses of. AITA? LOLOriginally posted by Carp

The engineers are working on a new piece of equipment. Yea something is wrong with it. Its firing off the burners with a loud building shaking bang. My office is on the other side of the wall. Is loud and you feel it more than hear it. I feel bad for the office people above the lab. Its a old build with thick walls and thin floors.Comment

This whole week has been crap. Today the "fuel cell low" gripe persists after 2 weeks of troubleshooting. An argument ensues between the two faculties in work on this ongoing problem. Plane defueled for the what seems like the 100th time. Got told I will need to either A. Move to the West Coast, or, B. Move to Japan ( Google search says Paintball sucks in Japan ). Worked on manning for the next month...Ill be working 12s for a couple weeks since I will only have one other guy and a couple on the road. Sooooo overall pessimistic outlook for the month of May based on today alone. LOL.Last edited by CatFarmers; 05-05-2026, 08:47 PM.Comment

This weekend we caught the new ref (he's the stepson of a friend and occasional fill in ref) stealing from the field. It started with gloves which I noticed missing at the end of his third day. Watching the cameras to figure out who did it, I found him stealing the gloves, but he denied it, claiming it was his hat in his hands. Started watching more of him on the cameras, discovered that his hat was sitting in a different building over 40 feet away when he took the gloves. When watching the cameras I found a lot more suspicious actions and evidence of stolen items. His mother and stepfather started tearing his room apart, and discovered a number of items stolen from the field, as well as items of theirs stolen, and items of unknown origins. Sucks, as I've known the kid around 1/3 of his life. He sucked as a ref, as he wasn't very observant on the field, but he was great at basically anything else I asked him to do. Figured he might finally become more observant with training/time. Turns out he was also great at stealing stuff too...I can haz feedback?

We had a vendor out to replace a controller card in a pneumatic tube system station at the hospital I work at. I'm not sure why he thought it to be a good idea, but he apparently sat his laptop inside the tube station itself to work on it. Unfortunately for him, he released one of the canisters, which dropped down and completely smashed his laptop (which had the proprietary software needed to actually configure the card). Thankfully, it was just the lid that took the brunt of the damage (smashed screen and a mangled lid). I ended up having to cobble together a docking station setup for him to connect what remained of his laptop so that he could finish the job. I guess that's a lesson he learns once because that thing was toast.Comment
