      My pops and I used to roast coffee years ago. I really enjoyed Tanzanian pea berry, medium light roast brewed in a French press. Simple, non acidic and smooth with no need for cream or sugar.

        Baratza Virtuoso grinder and a percolator for me. Used to do french press, but the perc saves me some time in the morning. I've been considering diving into the espresso world, but it's a bit pricey for a quality setup that I'm not sure I'd really use all that often.

        Does anyone have a recommendation for decent quality roasted whole beans available to purchase online (and also aren't >$20/lb)?

          Well if your up to discover countries I can supply you with roasted coffee. 8-12$ per 380-400grams depending on roast + Shipping. Whole or grounded by my virtuoso.

          My local Winco sells it in bulk, a nice medium light roast and not expensive to try out. It’s pretty good considering it comes from a grocery store and here it’s 7 bucks a pound. Check your local roasters and small coffee shops. We used to have a broker for our raw products, now I’m clueless to what and where to get anything special.

          Finally, a topic I feel knowledgeable enough about to talk about.

          im a total coffee whore. I have a cabinet full of coffee paraphernalia including an aero press, og Cory vacuume pot, percolator, 3 French presses, a staresso mini, and a drip pot.

          I've been huge on my aero press for years. Yes its a bit 9f elbow grease every morning for a cup, but its a great cup with out any oils missing. (I use an altra stainless filter).

          I recently got the staresso mini from indigogo and love it.. you can find a similar product on Amazon from staresso, but its not called the mini. Its essentially a pocket sized hand pump espresso maker that takes grounds or a nespresso pod. I got this unit for camping mainly, but since COVID we no longer have coffee pots at work, so its gotten a ton of use.

          My ultimate love though, is my homemade cold press. i have developed a pretty great brew method, and my cold press is hard to beat. Start with my 3 French presses. (Gotta brew in glass for taste) fill each with 6 scoops from my coffee scoop. Add water, cover the tops, and let sit on the counter for 24 hours. After 24 hours use the French press plunger to press the coffee raft to the bottom. I then take my empty aero press with stainless filter, and I strain my cold brew through the filter one last time. The altra filter catches that gritty hairy stuff the French press leaves behind.

          The result is a smooth oily cold press that'll make your taste buds dance, your heart race,, and clean your b -bole out.

          I usually just cut mine with a lil water for an americano. My wife takes it a step further.

          We also have a royal brew nitro keg. (lets you charge a keg with whip it canisters). I put my cold press in her keg and she has nitro cold press drinks with a little vanilla almond milk in them. Essentially a vanilla nitro latte. I've sipped them and they are a delight.

          My go to coffee is Cameron's intense French. (Local to me) but i love trying many brands.

            Anyone else experience a coffee consumption sine wave? I got real fancy with my shit earlier on in quarantine, but now I've been drinking pre-ground drip Aldi coffee and thinking nothing of it. Also I am drinking way too much fkn coffee.

                I went about 6 months without having coffee after I started working from home. I stopped for no reason in particular and started up again for no reason. When I started drinking it again I was having a k cup and adding in an espresso shot from my nespresso machine. I recently got some beans from Benoit on here and have been making cold brew with it.

                    I got an all glass Cory siphon coffee pot still in the box. The family I bought the house from left it buried deep in a cupboard. Its kindq tough to get right ( well it was on my electric stove) I havent tried it on the newer gas stove. But mqn it makes a nice cup when it works.

                  I had to share this.

                  So my wife got me an Onyx Coffee Advent Calendar for my birthday. Its basically 25 days of coffee, a different coffee every day. And 2 ounces of beans per batch.
                  this gets me one large aero pressed cup, and one espresso shot of each new flavor daily.

                  I believe it was $150 for the box but Ive had a few coffees that had me rolling my eyes into my head as I drank em.

                  I have Been taking pictures of my espresso shots for my coffee nut friend, and I added a couple to this folder.

                  If you guys care, Ill add them all.

                      When I first started WFH, I started taking more time and steaming milk and so on but after a couple of months, that got old so back to just straight double espressos. Have a Breville with build in grinder that I picked up maybe 7 years ago after blowing up 2 cheap Cuisinarts in less than a year. This thing is still going strong.

                      I still care about getting decent beans though.

                      Have a french press I never use also. For work, I traveled a bit and never could stand the Keurig or Nespresso machines in hotels - if I had to choose, I prefer the Nespresso but both are pretty lacking. Same for Keurig in office, tried a lot of different types and none of them tasted good.

                      Tried a moka pot once while on vacation in Tunisia at my Airbnb. Took me a while to figure out hot to get it all going especially on an unfamiliar gas stove but made a decent cup.

                        I love it. I use mine for a lot of stuff, but its my go to for most of my coffee needs. I have a stainless steel micro filter called the altra filter. This catches just about all sediment.

                        I usually make coffee out of my aeropress if Im just going for a hot cup, but Ill press all of my water through the grounds making more of an americano than anything else.its a lot of work, but its hard to beat the taste.

                        I also use it to filter my cold press. I make cold press in french presses. After a day of brew time, I french press them, then I run that through my aeropress for a final filter. The altra filter usually catches about 1/8" thick puck of gelato looking sediment out of my french cold presses. Yet it doesnt rob oils out of the coffee like a paper media filter would.

                        Id argue that my staresso mini makes a better espresso shot, but the staresso cant make a 30 oz cup either, so I try not to compare them to eachother much.
