Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

Excellent book if you haven't read it. I like how he went back and forth between the Holmes and the worlds fair stories.

Currently reading "V" based on the tv mini series from the 80's.
Been thinking of watching the show, then happened upon the book at the thrift shop.

I've gone through a few David Grann books lately. The Wager, The Lost City of Z, The Devil and Sherlock Holmes, Killers of the Flower Moon and The White Darkness.

The White Darkness was my favorite but it is very short.

Dark Waters the story of the NR-1 the US Navy`s nuclear powered deep submergence research and spy sub. I actually tried to get transferred to her when leaving a stint teaching. Sadly I did not pass muster.

I started reading Anna Karenina as a joke (my wife had to read it in college and hated it). Turns out I really enjoy Tolstoy. The Mrs might have as well, if she hadn't been obliged to consume the whole thing in a few weeks.

    BBC series called Rogue Heroes:

Based on the book but dramatized, I enjoyed it but it does take some liberties with the book.

Watched the 6 episode series recently and figured I needed to read the book. So far so good (5 chapters in).
I finished the book and enjoyed it. What was the series that you watched.

Just finished American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant by Ronald C. White.

Currently tackling a duo of The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements by Eric Hoffer and William Tecumseh Sherman by James Lee McDonough.

I can emphatically recommend all three.

Sounds interesting, I’m going to give it a read as well.

Definitely a good read in my opinion and helps give some context to some of the campiness in the movie. The movie I enjoyed (even though as typical takes a fair amount of liberties with the actual story line of the book) and the book fills in a lot of storyline gaps. Some of Robert Heinlein's books I like and some not so much but he was extremely prolific so plenty of choices.

Working on Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein.
I did not know the movie was based on a book published in 1959.
