I started reading "Why Architecture Matters" by Paul Goldberger. I'm only 20 pages in but so far I'm liking it. I also picked up Slow Gods today, but I didn't want to start that one just yet. The second Exodus book, Helium Seas, comes out in a couple days and I didn't want to jump into a different book before I got into that one.Comment

I'm reading "Burning Chrome", a William Gibson short story anthology. There's something about short sci-fi that lets an author delivery a point in an elegant way without having to build a whole backstory. Some wild ones so far.Feedback

I typically don't read much. Mostly shop manuals.
Started this recently. Probably won't finish it.

Chuck E Ducky. Added a picture of the back to clear those questions up. -
Interesting. Let me know what you think.

I am torn on what to read next . . . part of me wants to re-read 'Red Storm Rising', another part wants to read the Hyperion Cantos, another another part wants to read another Ian Banks Culture series book, and lastly - I am supposed to read 'Crime and Punishment' because I made a deal with my oldest kid that I would. She just read it this past year in school.

I read Red Storm Rising and thought it was only ok. I was only mildly interested in what happens in the rest of the series, but never got to reading the rest.
It’s skipable since you have others on the list. -
So many fellow Clancy fans adore Red Storm Rising, and it just did nothing for me. You ask the subreddit, and it's in consideration as the magnum opus of American literature. I've never been able to figure out why. It's the least engaging thing he ever wrote to me. Give me The Cardinal of the Kremlin or The Sum of All Fears (which the subreddit insisted to me was "the boring one," go figure).
@Ihamilton1807, RSR exists in its own continuity, it's not part of Clancy's other body of work. Don't miss out on Jack Ryan just because it didn't hold your interest, they're different animals. The Hunt For Red October through The Sum of All Fears is a god run for fiction output.

Ever since I read Gales of November last year I have been on a great lakes shipping kick. Currently reading Too Much Sea for Their Decks by Michael Schumacher, Its pretty good. Since its a collection of individual stories and not a single narrative throughout it makes it nice to pick up and read just a little bit each night. Before this I read November's Fury, also by Michael Schumacher, it was also very good.
Also listening to Titan by Ron Chernow. I was a little hesitant since it was something like 34 hours, but it was well worth it.Comment

I finished Dungeon Crawler Carl series and enjoyed it, so look at similar book recommendations and started He Who Fights With Monster. I don't care particularly for the writing, not the main character. I've thrown in the towel for now and switch to All System Red : The Murderbot Diaries.👍 2Comment

Just did "The Odyssey" on audiobook, Mendelson's translation. Crushed it on about 3 days of driving, and while the opening was slow and tedious, once I got the rhythm down it was pretty good.
Ready to go see the movie now that I've given the source material a fair shake.Feedback

I haven’t posted in a bit. I finished off the current novels in the Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. After 7000 pages there’s still a lot of world to build and explore. Wow.
Over some time off I finished The Devil in the White City, which is nonfiction. Great read.
Now I’m ~75% through the first book in the Expanse. The show followed it pretty closely. It’s kinda nice reading something lighter than Sanderson - he’s a great writer but dang there are so many threads to keep track of!Originally posted by Chuck E Ducky:

I'm 3 or 4 books into Stormlight Archives, some of my favorite books! I took a break a few months back and reading the Lies of Lock Lamora, but I need to get back to Sanderson soon!
Oh, and I'm on Caliban's War in the Expanse. I love those! It's my work-drive listen/read😎 1 -
Sanderson is a fantastic author and I loved the Stormlight Archives. I was also ready to try something else - it’s just a lot of reading.
Enjoying The Expanse so far.

Been a while since I posted. Here’s the most recent ones I’ve finished
Dirtbag, Massachusetts by Isaac Fitzgerald
Disappointment River by Brian Castner
Graveyard of the Pacific by Randall Sullivan
The Haunting by Natasha Preston
The Emerald Mile by Kevin Fedarko
No Beast So Fierce by Dane Huckelbridge
Lost in the Valley of Death by Harley Rustad
Against the Ice by Ejnar Mikkelsen
American Rambler by Isaac Fitzgerald
I really enjoyed the 2 by Isaac Fitzgerald and would recommend them. No Beast So Fierce is the same story as a book that MAr recommended. I couldn’t find the one that he recommended but this one was good.Red OneComment
